Seemed ok in the video, gotta watch the match to get a better feel. Looks comfortable enough. Hope we can somehow let him run with a bit more space, seems like he'd make stuff happen.

So how has he been in pre-season in comparison to Arbeloa?

Excellent, didn't miss a beat from Leverkusen, and Arbeloa's been... Mediocre. But he had a rather poor La Liga debut against Betis, so Arbeloa could still make a case unfortunately.

Carvajal and Marcelo on the pitch with Khedira as DM is suicide.

He'll be fine. Play him as much as possible and let him get up to speed on playing RB for Madrid. I wouldn't mind him playing 2 matches, then Arbs 1 and so on and so forth.

I think Dani, like the rest of us, we're caught a little off guard by Cedric. That boy looked like he could have been running in Moscow right now.

It wasn't just him, they (Diego Lopez, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo) all seemed startled and nervous. He's youngest so he didn't recover his confidence like the others were able to.

Like I said that Cedric was unmanageable :D

But Dani regained a bit composure in the second half when we got it together, that is a good sign.

Tbf the whole team was playing so bad that its not fair to blaim Carvajal. I mean Ramos and Isco(dont care if he scored and assisted, he sucked the whole game) where just so bad that its crazy. Even Cr7 didnt perform and we all know that he is the best.

Give this guy some time and he will not fail to impress.

Carvajal's positional sense was actually very good. The struggles were in decision among going forward, especially when it was Sergio Ramos trying to start the play out of the back. He needs to understand that his runs will be more effective when the outlet is via someone else. That'll come with time.

Oh, and Isco sucked the whole game? Ahaaaaaaaaa

So you're saying the suggestion that we should look to purchase another RB before the transfer window closes is a bit premature?

True story, that question was posed during the game :D

The media probably planted that seed - they do that you know. They will pump up a player and then want him sold two minutes later. Again, the media does that...your everyday poster can't get away with that kind of brilliance.

I think we were pretty terribly prepared for this guy. It's not that he was such a great football player, but his acceleration. They bought him for 1,20€, he himself thought of that funny clause in case some Primera Division club makes an approach for him until the 15th of July.

We became a lot better as a defensive unit once we got this guy under control. Betis will use him a lot this season in the same way, give him the ball in positions where he can simply run at a player and pass the ball to himself by kicking the ball ahead and getting there first.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Carvajal play this year. Arbeloa was just dreadful last year and to be fair he was never meant to be anything but a backup. This could also be Carvajal's fate but at least he brings some excitement.

What a fantastic rightback. He's seriously worldclass. I don't see how there would be no room for him at least on Spain's bench for the WC if he keeps performing like this. Who's his main competitor, aside from Arbeloa?

Azillipuetca and Montoya if I'm not mistaken.

Montoya would be nowhere near the national team if he wouldn't be playing for Barcelona.

Azpi is now a LB, he has only played RB twice all season.

As for Montoya he isn't even a starter for Barce, in fact he's literally had half the playing time Carvajal has had.

Montoya over Carvajal looks nothing short of insane to me. Azpilicueta maybe, but I still think Dani edges him out.

You forgot Atletico's Juanfran, he played there in Euro 12.

He would be fantastic for Spain as a backup RB for plan B situations. His crossing is good, and he manages to cross very often.
