Here are the updated pots: Pot ATigres UANL (Mexico), Santos Laguna (Mexico), Los Angeles Galaxy (USA), Seattle Sounders (USA), Herediano (Costa Rica), Olimpia (Honduras), Xelajú (Guatemala), Panama 1 Pot BChivas Guadalajara (Mexico), Monterrey (Mexico), Houston Dynamo (USA), Real Salt Lake (USA), Alajuelense (Costa Rica), Marathón (Honduras), Metapán (El Salvador), Toronto/Vancouver winner (Canada) Pot C Municipal (Guatemala), Panama 2, Águila (El Salvador), Real Estelí (Nicaragua), FAS (El Salvador), Caribbean 1, Caribbean 2, Caribbean 3 The Dynamo can only draw teams from Pot A (Central American clubs only) and Pot C into their group.
If we get Olimpia and Aguila we could *hope* for some decent attendance games. We could've had Chivas-Dynamo if Concaclowns didn't screw the format.
Rep for not fearing Mexican teams. It's obvious that CONCACRAP wants to protect usa teams from Mexicans for as long as possible. But do any fans here want that protection? I'm wondering if fans of this league like the new format, or would rather face Mexicans as early as possible, and are insulted by the new CONCAprotection.
It'd be better if they contributed money to the deportation of the non-indigenous. No one invited them here.
The 2012 Canadian Champion has been crowned: Wednesday, May 23 Toronto 1-0 Vancouver Toronto wins the title, 2-1, on aggregate.
Even more updates: Mexico: 4 (Tigres and Santos to Pot A, Guadalajara and Monterrey to Pot B) USA: 4 (Los Angeles and Seattle to Pot A, Houston and Real Salt Lake to Pot B) Canada: 1 (Toronto FC to Pot B) Costa Rica: 2 (Herediano to Pot A, Alajuelense to Pot B) Honduras: 2 (Olimpia to Pot A, Marathon to Pot B) Panama: 2 (Chorrillo to Pot A, Tauro to Pot C) Guatamala: 2 (Xelaju to Pot A, Municipal to Pot C) El Salvador: 3 (Isidro Metapán to Pot B, Aguila andFAS to Pot C) Nicaragua: 1 (Real Estelí to pot C) Belize: 1 (Spot re-assigned to El Salvador) Carribean: 3 (top three finishers in the Caribbean tournament go to Pot C)
damn-you beat me too it again. The worst team in the world seems to do pretty well in this competition.
So if Toronto is the worst team in the world, and they are the champions of all of Canada, what does that mean for Canadian football, eh? Or does the Canadian league have modified rules for football just like the CFL has for American football?
I don't think that CONCACAF has announced a date yet. Last year it was on May 18 with the Preliminary Round starting on July 26. This year there is no Preliminary Round but the Group Stage starts on July 31. I would expect the draw any day now.
Id rather face them early myself. Only for purely selfish reasons because games against Mexican teams are usually the most memorable. That and most Mexican teams actually want to play not dive around all over the place like a certain Panamanian club.
I go for the fights on the pitch. I went to a fight one time and a monterrey football match broke out.
The draw for groups will take place on Wednesday May 30th, according to Wikipedia. Hopefully that is correct. I need to start making travel plans now.
Paul Calixte has confirmed that the CCL group draw would be on Wednesday. We will be drawn into a group with either Herediano (costa rica), Olimpia (honduras), Chorillo (panama), or Xelaju (guatamala). We will also be drawn with either Tauro (panama), Municipal (guatamala), Aguila (el salvadore), FAS (el salvadore), Real Esteli (nicaragua), or one of the carribean qualifiers. Two teams from the same country can't be drawn together, although FAS counts as belize and not el salvadore for the draw.
The new format has pros and cons. A con is not getting a FMF team in the group stage. A pro is less group stage games. A pro is a better chance of getting a Caribbean team in the group stage. I'm ready to start making travel plans as well.
Put yourself in Concacaf's shoes. Your profits flow from the US and Mexico. If a Honduran, Costa Rican, or Jamaican team makes a miracle run, no one gives a damn. I would love to face the toughest competition ASAP, but the bean counters probably have the right idea here. If the Dynamo played Chivas in the first round, that game would draw some eyeballs, but manufacture some hype as a later round game, and all of a sudden, it's an international event all of North/ Central America is intrigued by.
The Caribbean Club Championship is down to its final 4 teams. 3 of these will advance to the CCL. Puerto Rico Islanders (PUR) Antigua Barracuda (ATG) Caledonia AIA (TRI) W Connection (TRI) I don't find any schedule or even a format for the final round of this tournament. It could be interesting depending on where CFU-1, 2, and 3 get drawn on Wednesday. You might see some maneuvering in the final round.
I understand why they do it. I guess the onus is on Honduras and Canada to protest this protective format, since their best teams will be exposed to being drawn with Mexicans, even though those teams have performed better than the worst usa team every time. Not fair at all, but fairness doesn't come to those who don't stand up for themselves. If CONCACAF had any brains, they would do something to prevent possible tanking in the CFU. I'd say they should leave all CFU spots indiscriminate of number (CFU1, CFU2, etc), and then let the CFU champion have first choice as to which CFU slot he wants. Then the runner-up gets second choice.
