That's pretty much exactly what Pele said when asked if Messi was the greatest footballer ever. Be that as it may, Edson, he's still pretty damn amazing.
Speaking of pretty damn amazing... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtSxMmcOlK8"]New bubble football created - YouTube[/ame]
Pele can say what he wants, but Pele never won a World Cup despite his coach and while the talent cycle was probably ebbing somewhat, by their standards.
The big difference between Pele then and Messi now is the fact that club ball is the bigger avenue. You're more regularly playing the best in the world in club ball now because of the ease of travel and signing foreign players. In Pele's day, the national team was the big thing.
And Pele didn't leave his home country till he came to NASL and uh, lets not count that. I'm with you, Pele can talk all he wants, but he didn't do it in La Liga. While Messi has a lot of amazing players around him, theres too much he does on his own to take anything away from him. Of course, he did do it on the international level. But the game has changed a lot since then.
Wow, the last 20 minutes of Inter-Genoa were crazygonuts. Red card on Inter's GK, three PKs, four total goals, all of that Italian craziness and more!
That's like the fools who judge quarterbacks by how many Super Bowl winning teams they have played on. It doesnt matter how good a player is on a team sport, it requires a team to win a championship.
How do you NOT get sent off for this? Song is totally lucky to not have a serious knee injury. That is just brutal and kinda hard to watch. Part of me always secretly kinda liked Mario simply because he's such a great villain, but peas and rice, thats just nasty.
He did finally get sent off, I was wanting him to score just to see him pull a Hassli and get a yellow for taking his shirt off. His seasons over and so is his time with city probably
Anyone else like The Tuesday Club with Alan Davies? It's an Arsenal podcast, but it's not analysis, mostly just funny banter. Davies is a comedian and rabid Arsenal fan. I imagine a Tottenham fan wouldn't enjoy it, but for everyone else, it's like hanging out with the soccer loving friends you wish you had. http://thetuesdayclub.libsyn.com/
http://www.footballwriters.co.uk/editorial/club-ban-paper-so-paper-ban-club/ AFC Bournemouth banned the local paper, Bournemouth Echo, so the paper banned the team.
Spurs got screwed on Chelsea's second goal. Foul on Terry and then the ball never crossed the line. https://twitter.com/#!/SunSportNow/status/191589713935736832/photo/1
I don't really plan on getting into Australian soccer, but I'll loathe the Brisbane Roar for all time after tonight. In the 95' of the Grand Final, tied 1-1 with Perth, their striker Berisha flopped in the box to win it. Horrific, egregious dive, when he had an open shot at goal. I think what happened is that he was losing his balance and decided to turn it into a flop. No matter, it's despicable, reprehensible jackassery, made even more vile (if such a thing is possible) when they all started celebrating at the whistle as if they had accomplished something other than embarrassing themselves, the A-League, Brisbane, and soccer as a whole. ******** you very much Brisbane Roar, for being a blight on the entire sport.
So this is one of the craziest sports stories I've heard in a while... Genoa supporters took a match hostage because they didn't feel the players were worthy of wearing the Genoa colors and forced them to take them off. Genoa match halted as ultras demand players hand over their shirts, which they did "Sculli went over to the ultras standing atop the tunnel and delivered an impassioned plea, making it clear that he didn't want to hand over his shirt because he was giving his all. Goalkeeper Sebastien Frey also refused to take off his shirt and argued with fans behind his goal. As the riot police continued to loiter, Sculli's speech and the supporters' protest then ended with Sculli in tears and being consoled by one of the ultras." Just crazy.
To top off the crazy, the team fired their coach after the match for their *18th* coaching change of the season. Even better/worse: the coach that they fired was already fired by the team back in December, and then re-hired earlier this month.
This is an entertaining game, but a superior form of sport? I don't think so. Grass Diving, whiffed PKs... nothing you can't see at the local HS game.
I was recording it at home, but accidentally came across the score a few minutes ago, so now I'm just following the gamecast. I couldn't be happier that Terry got booted...between him and Drogba I can't say I have much problem rooting against Chelsea when they play just about anyone.
reported: Terry offered an excuse that his knee was not intentional and that he'd never do that especially in a game of this magnitude. (Me: Sure. Like, yeah. Right dude.)
meh. If they hold off this last few minutes Chelsea in the final makes me unhappy. Guess I am a Bayern or Madrid fan for a bit. Edit: will be funny though since it looks like half the team is going to be ineligible from card accumulation.
I, for one, am ecstatic from yesterday. I still can't believe Chelsea was able to spend nearly 180 minutes in their half and still beat Barcelona.
Is there anything planned for the Champions League final? I know SKC takes on Colorado at 8 that day, so I was wondering if there was going to be a good amount of people at Johnny's in PnL or if the Members Club was going to be open for the final.
No clue how accurate this is, but I just read online that the SuperBowl had a worldwide audience of 111 million people, and today's Manchester Derby had a worldwide audience of 650 million.
