Not too surprising, given that the Reading line up could probably have bested the Spurs starting 11. I am so hoping that the FA Cup match v. Man U will be on the internet, because I am getting really excited to see it.
Okay, not sure on every player, but I'd think we can be reasonably confident that the transfer cost of the team we put out in the reserve match is substantially higher than our starting 11 last weekend. Have to be, with Convey 800k (then record), Seol 1.5 million (then record), Halford (2.5m now record) as well as duberry (800k). I think the entire squad was assembled for something like 7m, and that's 5.6m right there. Probably the most expensive Reading team ever to take the field. Almost certainly, in fact.
Anyone willing to provide a player rating for this match? Seems like about 6 or 7 potential starters were on for this one. Could see the same players for the FA Cup match, so just curious on how they played. TIA
As of right now, the game is not being shown on FSC. That may change. If not, a stream will surely be available.
Well, Reading's most expense reserve squad in history had no problems in this one. Reading - 4 Tottenham - 0. I'll link to a the match report once it is up.
During Tommy Burns' days he had a squad assembled for not much lower than that price. Noteable purchases (not all by Burns) were Darren Caskey (£700k), Nick Forster (£650k), Graeme Murty (£750k - as a winger!), Sean Evers (£500k), and a collection of usually Scottish journeymen signed for ridiculous fees, presumably as some kind of revenge for the battle of culloden, making a total squad "value" (I use the term in it's lossest possible sense) of around £4.5 million. When Burns was invited into Mr Madejski's office to discuss the opportunity of him furthering his career at another club, Reading were 23rd of 24 in what is now called League One.
Match report via Reading's website: http://www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10306~981712,00.html Brian McDermott, the Reserves' boss, had this to say: "It was a good exercise for us, you can go through the whole team and find positives. It was an excellent run out and most of the lads got a good 90 minutes under their belts."
Had no idea murty had cost 750k. I thought it was a third that. But caskey, pound for pound, that's a deal. RichardL: Am I right, was this game the most expensively assembled in Reading history? I base that simply on the three at their time record signings. [edit]Okay, so instead of being lazy on BS i decided to skip a bit of work. So, the Reading Squad from the weekend: Marcus (free), Murty (700k), Bikey (loan) Shorey (25k), Ing (100k), Harper (20k), Little (100k), Hunt (free), Sids (officially und, but I recall 600-700k being tossed around), Lita (1m) and Long (8k, IIRC, officially undisclosed). total= 2.65m And the Reserves: Federici (free) DelaCruz (free) Halford (2.5m) Duberry (800k), Sodje (350k), Convey (800k, off undscd) Seol (1m rising to 1.5m), Oster (free) Gunn (600k), Kitson (150k), Doyle (78k) total = 6.27 to 6.77m.
