Had an English kid visiting with us recently. Asked him if he played football. He said "We don't play football at home, more soccer and cricket. Used to play soccer when I was younger, but I'm a cricket player now." Maybe he figured I didn't understand "English."
Strange that they left out Canada, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Wonder why? Oh right. They have other forms of football that are as or more popular as well so they call it soccer too.
Haven't you learned from political campaigns that you shouldn't let facts get in the way of a good put-down?
I thought it was Captain Picard until I saw the Star Fleet Engineering band* across the shoulders. * Yes, that was an attempt to make a geeky reference even geekier!
OK, this is my absolute favorite. I was trying to figure out how to put one of these together the other day.
Agreed that the post is inappropriate for the forum and it has been deleted. That said, with a meme thread like this, we're naturally playing with fire to an extent. Mattyfire appears to be new and I think he could be forgiven for not knowing what might be acceptable to the posters on this board. A quick glance of this page--and some other threads--would seem to indicate that borderline sexism is accepted and sometimes celebrated, for example. I don't think anyone wants the moderators to be the thought police, though (and I was even a bit uncomfortable deleting this one, given what else has been allowed historically). Bottom line for everyone is to be careful about what they post and also to be judicious in what they complain about. You don't like players waving the imaginary card after a foul during one of your games, right?
Funny I saw this. Taught a Grade 8 this weekend, on Law12, they all thought they knew hteir stuff and I didn't have to go over anything, so I said: - Everyone stand up. I will ask 5 questions, sit down when you get one wrong. Whoever is still standing passes this section of the test. Seem fair? - all 27 stood up - Question 1: It's illegal to play the ball while laying on the ground? Result, 22 of them sat down
