Like the phoenix rising from the ashes, the Chicago Red Stars are showing some signs of life again. The Red Stars Twitter, after months of silence has been turned on and some signs of movement can be seen on their WPSL web site. http://twitter.com/#!/chicagoredstars http://www.wpsl.info/team/index.php?tid=124
Hope you guys have a great 2011 season! =-D (and that your ownerships strengthens enough to re-enter WPS)
yep, thanks for the patience. we just press released this a few moments ago. I'll try to answer questions here for the faithful as you have them. there is a letter on chicagoredstars.com that will answer a few questions. We have a very nice team shaping up and hope we can count on your support. CRS Owners
2012 not announced yet. 2011 we ARE playing in WPSL starting in a few weeks. Here is a link to clarify with latest press release: http://www.wpsl.info/team/index.php?tid=124
its a great question (re: attendance) we have our hopes, we have our expectations, and then we also know that we are VERY late in announcing (for many reasons that we can't fully share) ... But, we know those that care will be there and that is why we are doing it.
Of course I'll be there barring other commitments that have already been scheduled. Already talked to a couple buddies that used to sit near me when CRS played at Toyota Park last couple of years about going to the games at Benedictine. My question is are we still looking to join WPS in 2012? And what does that depend on as of right now?
From the Red Stars WPSL website: http://www.wpsl.info/news/index.php/?cat=1&id=1225 Check out some of the players on the roster: http://www.ChicagoRedStars.com This is going to be a really good team.
This is very good news! I hope things continue to progress in a positive direction for the Red Stars.
I will try to get to some games, I guess we have 2 WPSL teams and 1 WLS team in Chicago. No schedule as of yet, but there is still some time into June. Regarding WPS, I read that WPSL will try to do some type of professional league next year, maybe that will be a better option for the CRS. Time will tell. Teams in the Midwest North http://www.wpsl.info/standings/
But on the WPSL site it says that the Eclipse Select coach will be coaching the CRS. Who will be coaching Eclipse Select in the WPSL? BTW, I believe Eclipse Select is where Brittany Bock played as well. I certainly hope that the CRS get good support. Especialy for Arnim Whisler. Of all the owners the CRS had while in the WPS, he seems to be the one most interested in seeing this organization continue. Great job Arnim!!
catching up on questions... 2012 - what will we do and what will determine that? I think we have to watch WPS plans/stability/growth and I think we have to make sure we have strong support for our team in Chicago. WWC might also tell us something -- for instance does USSF think we need major changes to how we develop and grow talent post college? if so it might have some influence on Wps/w-league/wpsl and Red Stars. We are starting with two stadium games (july 2 and 10) to make sure we can build good fan support and not get too spread out over too many games with smaller crowds. If we get good support for those two games we can add more dates. Clearly if we can get a good crowd for those two dates it will say alot about how badly our fans want us to stick around. And yes that is Shek's team on the other side of Midwest bracket at FC Indiana -- he'll also have a squad in WMS and its not clear yet where he'll have his best players... but he is running two teams with some excellent talent as usual. Some other very good WPSL teams around. Should be a fun season and very compressed. June 1 first game in Minnesota and playoffs on July 17th. Schedule should be up very soon. Please note the July 2 game (and potentially another) are double header so four teams in the division playing back to back. Eclipse will have lots of very strong younger players so some very good talent on display in the matches. For you real dedicated fans please note you can catch an extra couple games if you are willing to go to our road trip to madison and milwaukee. Its actually great to have 12/13 teams within driving distance for team finances. Much to like about WPSL.
