As of October 21st, 2007, Major League Soccer (MLS) newcomers Toronto FC will have wrapped up their inaugural season of league play. The Win-Loss-Draw record belies how truly successful the team was, and regardless of what the numbers say, the fervent supporters are still loud and proud for our boys in red.

    Loud and Proud…and Charitable!

Yes, you heard that correctly. Not only do Toronto FC’s supporters come out in droves to games, but they walk the talk when it comes to community involvement.

Enter the Red Patch Boys, and more importantly, the Red Patch GIRLS.

On September 15th of this year, the Red Patch Boys supporters group released a 2008 calendar, available for sale before and after games and at select Toronto businesses and at www.redpatchboys.ca . All proceeds from the sales are donated to Right To Play and KidSport Ontario. The calendar features the very real women who proudly fly the Toronto FC colours in their support of the club. The entire project was conceived, compiled and produced by those same women. A very tasteful layout with just a hint of sass, to benefit children both here at home and abroad. It’s a labour of love whose effects will be seen in the smiles of children who are given the opportunity to do what children were meant to do - play.

Approximately 3000 calendars are available, and every penny of proceeds goes to our two charities. We are officially selling entirely for “profit” at this point as all printing costs have been covered.

Local women. Local activism. Local results. Global impact.

Who wants to be part of our revolution for children?

    Right To Play (
http://www.righttoplay.com) is an organization that promotes positive change and a healthier safer world for children through the power of sport and play. Some of the worlds most marginalized and at-risk children benefit each day from the programmes developed and delivered by Right To Play. It’s not just about kicking a ball around. The children who benefit from these programmes learn fundamental life skills, basic education and development, conflict resolution and peace education, and health promotion and disease prevention. It’s that simple. It’s that important.

    KidSport Ontario (
http://www.kidsport.ca) is a charitable organization that helps children overcome barriers that prevent them from participating in organized sport, regardless of social divide. Its assisted access to sport on a community level helps encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices among the future citizens of our cities, our province and our nation. Organized sport offers a treasure trove of vital ingredients in the healthy development and growth of children both physically and socially. Every child should be able to play, to grow, to flourish, to succeed. It’s that simple. It’s that important.

Buy a calendar today, and invest in the health, happiness and vitality of our children. With the holidays fast approaching, it’s a gift that gives twice!
