I was thinking the same thing. All I saw was a "G".

All I see in our current crest is still Mr. Pac Man.

He puts a lot of thought into his work then plays it extremely safe to the point that it isn't memorable or that creative. It's on the right track but I do not see a "Q" and for so much talk about the black space, it seems it has as much dead space as the actual crest.

We just conformed to the league standard like a bunch of sheep, trying to go all euro logo, thanks a lot Kaval o_O

Some people around here hate it, others have questioned those people or defended it, but you've gotta admit no one really loves it, no one is really crazy about it.

There are a few people that are like “yeah, it's not so bad”, I can deal with that,& they don’t hate on it, but I don't think there is anyone, or more then 2 or 3 people at the most on this entire board that genuinely love it.
Mostly people hate it and think it sucks or others are more like, “its not the worst logo ever I can live what that” kind of attitude. We really screwed this one up big time.

When you create a logo, at the very beginning you have an infinite amount of options & the best we could come up with is what we have now, 90's soccer ball, "Quakes", 30% dead space, hardly any blue & a splash of random red thrown in

I love this guys work. I don't think all his designs are better but he's very creative. For his Quakes design, I think he came up with a simple, yet versatile design. He figured all kinds of ways to market the design, and frankly, it was the marketing ideas that sold me on it. I even thought it looked good on both our home and away kits. With very few changes, it would work. I think it just needs to lose the fault in the logo so that the black/red lines can wrap all the way around and make the Q more obvious.

I think that's the point. A simple, timeless, instantly recognizable brand. He's hooting for simple ideas like this that we see in non-sports related industries.

since it looks like we are digging up old threads today....my two cents:

being that i was never and continue to not be a fan of the new logo, i finally got around to refining my version of an updated logo design. it combines what i liked about the old one with my take and preference on some of the new elements. it will be my new avatar from now on. you may also see me wearing it at Avaya.

Kind of looks like the sun setting over choppy seas. Kind of cool in that way.

Your logo is much better than the official one.

But I'll wear the official kit.

Oh, and if you're going to wear your logo, how can I get one? I could print off the logo from here and then take it to a shirt embroidery place maybe. Just wondering if you've got some way to make these?

    Go Quakes!!
    Go Quakes Fans!!

Not a fan of the league-wide trend toward white away kits. I hope MLS isn't trying to move to a mandatory "color at home, white on the road" rule.

Overall, a year in, the rebrand has been effective. We look like an adult team.

Actually, with the absolutely rightful return of the blue jersey / black shorts / blue socks primary uniform on the field, we do look like an adult team again.

Whether or not we're playing on the field like an adult team is another matter.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I love the new logo. The old one is kinda cartoonish. Sorry you guys. I do wish the sun rays were incorporated into the new logo, but oh well, ya can't have everything.

The only changes I'd make to the current logo are:

    1) Change the word "Quakes" to "Earthquakes"
    2) Except for the black on the soccer ball, switch all the blue and the black with each other.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

    Corporate marketing jargon is funny.
