Also I'm with Mark. No reason to screw with the crest. Especially now that they're reportedly FINALLY going back to blue as our primary jersey color.
Wow, is the Earthquakes name really being talked about being changed? As much as I hate you guys , the Earthquakes name does not only have history throughout the days of the NASL, but now in MLS as well. That'd be a real shame to see the Earthquakes name go. I hope, if anything, it would just be an update to the colors and/or logo. Does anyone have any insight as to what the FO has said about any of it? Anyways, good luck with everything regarding that and we'll see you guys on October 20th.
If the brilliant "let's go black" minds are still at the helm... You may have more to worry about than being a scum fan.
...other than it being really awful? Someone noted an example of simple, classic earlier in this thread (Raiders uniform). Simple and classic for the crest; we can do without the shaded soccer ball, "Silicon Valley" sun rays and Pringles mustache cut-and-paste hodge podge. Tradition is generally good, but it doesn't mean that you should never change and become completely static. You have to be judicious about it and pick your spots to move forward rather than living with the bad always in the name of tradition.. This is one of those spots.
Right now there is just a rumor of a change of the crest and using "Quakes" rather than "Earthquakes". My guess is that the formal name will still be the San Jose Earthquakes, but, they will use the informal "Quakes" on advertising, merchandise, and perhaps uniforms, kind of like how the NASL Quakes did.
As long as they keep the name I don't' care if they change the crest....... I always wondered why 1906 doesn't change their name to 1989 though? I mean no one is alive from 06 but (almost) everyone remembers 89 & the Bay Bridge World Series Quake....
In your opinion. I think our crest is classic and simple. And more importantly it ties the pre and post hiatus Quakes together.
The only part I agree with... The other items in your complaint have some linage with the City emblem/flag so they are not arbitray and do have some link to the city.
Alioto has been gone for years. Unless you are assuming Lew is calling the jersey color shots, then LOL.
They may have some link to the "lineage" of the city but stylistically they are completely unmatched. It's a mess, frankly. You've got a 3D soccer ball (do we have to include a soccer ball so that people know it's soccer?), flat "silicon valley rays", or whatever those are, 3D 80's block letting for "Earthquakes", a flat "San Jose" at the top in the Pringles section, that tries to kind of match the Earthquakes block lettering but just winds up looking like a completely out of place "A" and "N". It's beyond a mess...
How about the mighty 2007 Alum Rock earthquake, the biggest in the bay area since Loma Prieta? It was more local to San Jose. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Alum_Rock_earthquake
Though Blades and Sharks were the fans' top two team-name choices for San José's then-new NHL team, other runner-up choices included (in alphabetical order): Fog Icebreakers Red Woods Rubber Puckies Salty Dogs Screaming Squids GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_football_club_names Pretty interesting to see how some names are made. S.J.S.C (San Jose Sporting Club) Cosmos means multiculturalism. I still dont know where I stand on this issue just posting a cool link of club names
Not saying I want the Cosmos name, just didnt know it meant that. But a logo with 1974 is there would be cool. Kind of like BVB
