News: Real Salt Lake to face Deportivo Saprissa on July 23

A lot of sloppy passes this far into the match, with RSL making a lot of passes over the top with both Findley and Beckerman almost running onto them in time.

Deuchar with a rough slide tackle in the 5' - surprisingly didn't get booked

 

Deuchar just earned a free kick on the right side of the box... with no Morales to take it - I doubt it will be dangerous... and yet - somehow it is. Dema launches it about 10 yards in front of goal, Deuchar heads it, collects and kicks a shot on goal that the goalie barely saves.

Mantilla with horrible tackle - again, no booking. We look chippy.

 

Saprissa is speedy... Dema was chasing down a loose ball and gets yanked down by Oviedo. Saprissa hasn't looked particularly dangerous on the offensive end to this point.

 

And... Olave just killed Joy.

 

Great one touch passing and Findley runs onto a ball... only to find himself offside. RSL is doing a great job with their passing and positioning.

 

Oviedo has never played on the Costa Rican League, he has been on the 1st team for 2 months

GK Keylor Navas has been the player of the game so far, he is the future CRNT goal keeper

 

And.... Dema just got a yellow for taking Oviedo out (19'). You can tell both players don't like each other... I don't see this being the end of their run-ins.

Nimo with a close call. He calmly controlled the ball off of a corner that was popped up, held off the Saprissa defender, and shot a rocket at goal that was barely controlled. Nice run of play for RSL.

 

Yeah, despite some of the non-regulars in the lineup, it's definitely a fast-paced match. We're pushing for an opening goal like crazy whereas Saprissa seemed to be content on passing in the middle third.

 

That is one of the best quotes I have ever heard coming from Cantona.

I still like Guerron's quote better though.

 

Alpizar with amazing control, fighting off Kirby and setting Gomez free for an open shot that was destined for goal... until Mantialla got a foot on it.

Nimo just got a yellow... and I have no idea what for..

 

To be fair, they've been looking a lot more lively over the past 5-10 minutes, but they haven't looked particularly dangerous outside of that one play. RSL just needs to find away to get ahold of the ball in the final third and not be offside.

 

Dema almost scored after connecting with a pass over the top from Nimo... he slid a low shot to the far left post of goal that Navas barely got a hand on. Nimo could have follow up but skied the shot harmlessly.

 

Beckerman with a beautiful ball over the defense who weren't paying attention. Findley connects to the ball right in front of the stunned keeper... only to half-hit and do absolutely nothing with the chance.

 

7 minute until half... and the game has fallen back to being a lot of sloppy passes and possession in the middle of the pitch.

 

good performance by the 3 rookies, robinson, russel and oviedo...
dickov, what position are they playing? I think robinson is a defensive midfielder and russel an attacking midfielder.. what about oviedo? defender?

maybe the radio announcer got confused... or he did run pretty fast
