I don't know anything about these guys. Has anyone followed their careers? I think Fabio Coltarti signed too - can anyone confirm?
Szetela is a good defensive mid, played great at youth World Cup level but had his struggles with the Crew due to two years of injury. He is healthy now and I expect he will be a great addition.
Am interested in details of a tournament Santander held in August 1985. Any information re teams, lineouts, dates etc would be greatly appreciated. KOH
To be honest, I think Google may be your best hope. I've included a couple of links to Racing during that period, but the quick look I had, I didn't notice any information about pre-season tournaments. http://www.realracingclub.es/club/historia_detalle.aspx?id=11 http://www.webdelracing.com/informacion/historial.php Good luck!
Thanks for that. It was a three team tournament with my club Shamrock Rovers playing Racing and Atletico Madrid. Two of our former players used to play for Racing: Alan Campbell and Liam Buckley. KOH
can you guys comfirm this signing? http://www.peru.com/futbol/AutoNoticias/FutbolPortada/2008/01/29/DetalleNoticia100020.asp
Nothing official yet, though Racing have said they are trying to close the deal. If the deal goes through it will be on Racing's website some time in the next 24 hours..... Link to Racing's website

Can't say I'm a regular here so I'm prepared for a pretty harsh attack if this is a stupid question... What is the origin of the term "Racing"? I'd be very interested to know or be pointed in the right direction where I could find out.
There was a strong British influence in the early days of Spanish football and that can be seen in the names of many clubs...there is 'Sporting' 'Athletic', ... Recre were originally Huelva Recreation Club and clubs like Ferrol and Santander used 'Racing'.
Did the actual name "Racing" have certain significance or was it chosen arbitrarily like "Sporting" or "Athletic"? Thanks.
Not that I am aware of...at least not specifically about Santander...as well as Ferrol in Spain, there are plenty of clubs in France, Belgium and South America that are 'racing' clubs. I would presume they all formed as part of, or with ties to more general athletics clubs...though I am only speculating on that.
