    Goals:
    66m Meijide
    77m Diego Cervero

    Highlights:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTLAkZPiw4g&eurl=

One surprise in team, Matias picked to play as second striker behind Diego Cervero. In midfield Juan Luis played as holding midfielder (Pivot) with Sergio Villanueva on right and Jaime on left, Curro the attacking player in midfield diamond. Lucas Iglesias replaces Jose Luis at right back and the giants Carmona and Meijide look to form a solid partnership in the centre of defence.

First half Oviedo had all possession with little chances and just before half-time nearly blew it with Collot missing a decent chance.

Second half the chances came and were taken with the two Diegos getting the goals, could have scored more but you have to be happy with 3 points and the 15 month away hoo-doo has been broken.

Due to postponment of home match against Universidad, Oviedo have 10 days without a match.

Next game being the semi-final of the Federation Cup away to Unión Popular de Langreo on Wednesday 5th September.

Universidad match Postponed due to state of the Carlos Tartiere pitch and because Spain are playing Latvia in a vital qualifier for Euro 2008 (12th Sept) it has been decided not to play on the pitch until after that date. All Oviedos' home pre-season and Federation cup matches have been played at their training complex (Cuidad deportivo) "El Requexón".

A second string side with Meijide and Cervera among others rested held out for a 0-0 draw making Oviedo the favorites to go through with the advantage of 2nd Leg being at home. Youth team defender Adrian made his first team debut.

First game in 10 days a dire 0-0. Armando got sent-off after 37mins and both Jaime and Jose Luis picked up injuries so not a great game overall then.

knee injury to Jose Luis rules him out of away match v Ribadasella this weekend.

This Wednesday first match at the Carlos Tartiere this season....

    Spain versus Latvia

Luis Aragones at Oviedos' training complex "El Requexón" with the Spanish players:
    http://www.magazineoviedista.com/real-oviedo/jornada-especial-en-el-requexon-03070910-2.html

must be strange(inspiring?) for the Oviedo players to see at first hand the international players training, the two squads training side by side.

    ----

This Sunday the big match though at the Carlos Tartiere, Sporting Gijon "B" (1 win 2 defeats so far) a home win and we move 6 points clear of them with a game in hand!!!!!!!!!:D

    Attendance: 4.953 (Carlos Tartiere)

    Goalscorers:

    1-0. Stefan (min. 2).
    1-1. Pablo Acebal (min. 28).
    1-2. Carlos Álvarez (min. 49).
    2-2. Cervero (min. 88).
    3-2. Meijide (min. 93).

Poor game great result, defence very poor with Carmona playing with an injury and having to be substituted early in second half. The website http://www.oviedin.com/ states the match was a horror show, Oviedo only playing for first 20 and last 5 minutes, in between all Sporting "B" with the Oviedo midfield run ragged. The team reportedly has enormous defensive deficiencies shown up by the visitors and with very little options in the squad Carrasco has little options to change things. The 3 central midfielders Falo Carrera and Curro were over-run and provided little support for the defence who looked slow and lethargic, every time Gijon had an attack they looked like scoring. The final flourish was down to the enegetic full of running Diego Cervero who again led the attack and scored the equaliser, the other "Die-gol" scored the winner late into injury time, a headed goal from Meijide.

3 wins from 3 league games playing pretty poorly so far, hopefully form improves and performances get better and the run of results continues.

Midweek another freindly, another meaningless trophy (The Trofeo Principado), this time against the full Sporting Gijon side at the Carlos Tartiere. Whether the 2 sides put out full sides is another matter, Oviedo certainly cannot afford any more injuries.

By the reports I’ve heard Oviedo played considerably better against the “A” team this Wednesday night than against the “B” team on Sunday. Same result beating the old enemy twice in 4 days and winning the Trofeo Principado.

Due to injuries Carrasco changed things around again in his now familiar 4-3-3/4-3-2-1 formation, with Falo moving to the centre of defence and Dani Garcia and Iker Lasarte the wing-backs. Key players Cervero and Meijide both rested with youngsters Stefan and Matias leading the attack.

First Half Oviedo matched Gijon with little chances created, the two midfields matching up evenly but towards the end of half Gijon upped the pressure and scored through the experianced Karanka who then hit woodwork (with what amounted to Gijons' only 2 shots in the match). Half-time came just as the visitors looked to be finding some momentum, an ideal time for Oviedo to go into the break and regroup.

Second half and a good deal of tactical re-jigging by Lobo Carrasco, Falo moving into midfield, Centron onto wing, substitute Jose Luis coming on at full-back and Iker Lasarte moving into the centre of defence. and early in second on came the tallismanic goal machine Cervero taking central striker role. The second half was all Oviedos with the home side in complete control. Unlike Sunday when the midfield were over-run Curro and Jon Carrera were immense against supposedly superior players.

Carrasco missing Juan Luis and Carmona through injury decided to field Dani Garcia at right back leaving again the more experianced Jose Luis out of the side. Lucas Iglesias and Meijide formed the central defensive positions with Lasarte at left back. Matias got in ahead of Stefan in the side but otherwise due to injuries and suspensions the midfield and attack more or less named itself. (Bruno out injured and Armando serving the last game of his suspension.).
First Half Oviedo in full control and made a number of chances culminating in Cerveros’ goal from a Villanueva cross.
Second Half all the running initially from Oviedo and lead to a second goal again from a cross whipped from right wing by Sergio Villanueva this time knocked in by the opposition centreback under pressure from the ever lively Diego Cervero. At 2-0 the visitors then sat back on their lead inviting pressure from Aviles. The Oviedo defence again looked shaky at times but only succumbed to a quality free-kick. A break away goal in injury time from substitute Centron made the score a healthy 1-3 and a deserved away victory.

Put this win in context we have 3 away wins in a row after a run of no away wins in 16 months, we didn’t win a single away match last season and only managed 5 points away from home over the whole campaign. The second half of last season we only managed 12 points, 12 points in our last 19 games. We now have 12 points from our first 4 games and have equalled the points tally of that half of the season. We beat our away points total of last year in our first 2 games!
