Er Glorioso came back from the dead on a cold rainy night at home with a 2-1 win in extremis sending the Che's back home with 0 points and the cross town rivals Sevilla are also on their way back home with 0 points losing to Levante in Valencia.

Pepe Mel had been given a huge vote of confidence by the Betis President Guillen after last weeks epic injury time loss against Osasuna, which made sense as many Beticos did not want Pepe Mel fired only to bring in someone who had no idea about the club and the players.

The Beticos had dominated most of the match but once again their forwards could not score a goal if their lives depended on it. Valencia on a counter attack against the run of play scored in the 66th minute on a Dorado own goal and it looked bleak for Er Glorioso. Betis looked dead but Pepe Mel made all three substitutions in the 76th-80th minutes with Ezquiel, Jorge Molina and Juanma coming in for Pozuelo, Santa Cruz and Jonathan. Ruben Castro who scored last week and is the leading Betis scorer bagged two goals in injury time with assists from Juanma on both goals and the three points stayed at home as Er Glorioso snapped their 10 games without a win streak and more importantly moved three points farther from the cellar.

Great win today by Er Glorioso 0-2 against Atletico de Madrid at the Calderon.

That gives Er Glorioso two wins in a row and puts them in 11th place with 19 points, four out of the relegation zone.

nice freakin' win. No one in their right mind would have predicted that scoreline :D btw, I am not sure that was a handball & it was deserving red  Again the ball knows the truth & that was presented when Santa Cruz scored

Looks like Pepe Mel's Christmas wish list is to get rid of at least 5 players from the 30 on the current squad.

Juan Calahorro, Momo (likely to Jerez), Tosic, Goitia and possibly Jorge Molina (Hercules), are rumored to be on that list and a few other of the right halfbacks could be on their way to somewhere else.

Feliz Navidad to all the Beticos out there!!

Er Glorioso started the new year on the right foot defeating Sporting de Gijon 2-0 at home with goals from Roque Santa Cruz in the 23rd minute and Jorge Molina late in injury time 90+. Today's MOTM was Casto who came up with some big saves that key the game tied at 0 and preserved the Betis lead later in the match.

With today's win that is three in the row and next week they are at the Nou Camp against Barca. They are now in 10th place with 22 points and are six points out of the relegation zone.

Awesome win yesterday & the club is finding a bit of form just in time for a trip to the Nou Camp. Barca will be up for this match, so I will be extremely happy for a draw.

Betis arrive at the Nou Camp with a three game winning streak in la liga having defeated Valencia 2-1, Atletico de Madrid 0-2 and Sporting de Gijon 2-0.

Betis has had to make changes to their lineup used in their last game. Mario, Juanma and Santa Cruz were banged up during that match and Benhat got his 5th yellow card so he'll be sitting this one out!

Pepe Mel in the last couple of practices has gone back to a 4-3-3 and from the looks of it the starting XI will be:

[LINEUP-3-3-4]Isidoro, Ustaritz, Dorado, Nacho; Iriney, Cañas, Salva Sevilla; Jefferson Montero, Rubén Castro y Jorge Molina.[/LINEUP-3-3-4]

Nice post!!! I am wishing Barca are looking towards their match vs Real Madrid on the 18th & lose focus vs. Los VerdiBlancos. Remember last season Los VerdiBlancos defeated Barca in the CDR.

    Final Score 4-2

    1-0 Xavi (10')
    2-0 Lionel Messi (12')
    2-1 Rubén Castro (32')
    2-2 Roque Santa Cruz (52')
    3-2 Alexis Sánchez (75')
    4-2 Lionel Messi (pen 86')

Pepe Mel did exactly what he promised he would do not park the bus in front of the goal and actually have Er Glorioso play open futbol in the Nou Camp. One wonders what the scoreline would have been had Mario not picked up his two yellow cards and get the boot in the 70th minute. Up to that point Er Glorioso was going toe to toe with the World's Greatest Club team and I honestly believe that they were going in for the kill when they suddenly were reduced to ten men. Ustaritz came on for Jorge Molina for help on D and Betis lost their spark and the game. Next weekend the Derbi Sevillano and if they play like they did today, it will be a long afternoon for the palanganas.

Betis made me proud today. They don't have the payroll as Barca, but they did play even w/ them & if they could have finished w/ 11, I don't think Barca would have won today.

Bad news for us US based Beticos, the Derbi Sevillano will not be televised this Saturday on TV, as usual you can view the match on some internet live feeds ESPN360.com and others but neither GOLTV or ESPN Deportes will be showing us the game live nor on tape delay from what I have gathered from the various schedules I have seen.

The game will be on ESPN Deportes! Not the best, but it will be available to those with Spanish-lang premium cable.

That said, does anybody know a place in NYC where I can watch the game with some Beticos?

Both me & Pichi are on the Left Coast. Can't help you there. There is a large Betis presence on Twitter & there is an English Betis Blog that has a live match thread.
