Betis players first day reporting in for the pre-season is 11 July. The team after a few days in Andalucia will head to France for their main pre-season training. They will be playing in the Bayonne Cup from 20-23 July, the other three teams in the Cup are RCD Espanyol, Girondins of Bordeaux and Olympique of Marseilles. The only other pre-season match scheduled is against recently promoted to EPL Swansea City on 6 August in Swansea Wales.

Everybody's favorite broke dick player Odonkor will not renew his contract that expires on 30 June and will be returning to Germany where it is rumored that he may sign for Second Division Karlsruher. He did not play one single minute this season and only played in 51 games for Er Glorioso in his five seasons. Definitely one of Lopera's worst signings right up there with Palermo, Nino and Denilson!!

According to Stosic Er Glorioso is in the market for 4 more players, a GK, defender, mid and striker, I guess time will tell.

Also Betis will play a friendly against 3rd Division Coria toward the end of the pre-season a date has not yet been finalized.

And after a two year absence there will be a Derby Sevillano and the first salvos were launched by the new Sevilla coach Marcelino who when asked if Betis can compete with Sevilla this year gave the press the answer a big no. Nothing like bulletin board material in the Betis locker room this soon in the season!!

Er Glorioso has signed for 3 years goal keeper Fabricio Agosto from Valladolid although he was loaned out to Recre last season, as part of the deal Betis B player Fran No will be packing his bags and heading to Valladolid on loan. Now with 3 GK's more then likely it will be Goita who will be shown the door since Er Glorioso wants to keep Casto as the backup GK.

I'm so excited to see Betis back up in the Primera.

So far I am only pleased with the Matilla signing. I've never seen Mario or Javier Chica play so I can't comment on those two. Montero looks like a risk-free loan signing so I'm content with that one.

What do you guys think of Malaga's recent ownership change? Would Betis ever accept a rich foreign investor?

Matilla cost Betis 1.35M Euros and signed a 3 year contract with an optional year. He will be the key signing this summer since Betis is broke and doesn't have much money to do buy anyone else of that stature even if Emana is sold.

As for the question above reference Malaga and their Arab owner with the deeeeeeep pockets, Beticos I believe would be against this unless it was the only way to remain solvent. We all know what happens when one person owns more then 50% of Betis shares and is a micro-manager and a true believer of nepotism Ie Lolo. I would prefer several key stockholders who own minority shares but of a significant value which would enable the team to remain solvent and competitive in the league. My only complaint is how the team sells their shares of stock and the archaic and out dated process makes it virtually impossible for any of us Beticos outside of Hispalis to purchase Betis stock.

I believe that if the team (Malaga) stays healthy and the players are able to assimilate their new team mates they can easily outplay Sevilla, Betis and Granada. That being said Granada thanks to the monies spent by their owners Udinense have turned their team around and are now in Primera.

    Latest Betis player moves:

Javier Matilla from Villareal 1.35M, signed for 3 years with a one year option.
Jefferson Montero on loan from Villareal for 1 year with a purchase option of 300K Euros.

Damian Petcoff renewed his contract with Betis for 3 years.

    Israel's
contract was not renewed and he signed a 3 year contract with Jerez or Xerex as some would say.

    Juande Prados
who was playing for Granada CF on loan last season has returned to Betis.

Carlos "Lobo" Diarte who played for Real Betis Balompie as a striker from 1980-83 died today of cancer in Valencia at the age of 57. He was one of the more prolific players for Betis during that era, scoring 27+ goals with the team. He had been diagnosed with Cancer last year and had to leave his position as the coach for the Ecuatorial Guinea NT in order to get treated in Valencia.

    Here is his bio:

    May he rest in peace!

Tonight was the annual shareholders meeting in Sevilla and Er Glorioso has a new president who is the 42nd in the history of the club. Miguel Guillen who until recently was the Marketing Director was elected with over 56% of the vote. As part of his Board of Directors here are the rest of the names of the supporting cast: José Antonio Bosch, Pablo Gómez Falcón (VP), Antonio José Sánchez Pino, Isabel Simó, León Lasa, Fernando Criado y Manuel Domínguez Platas (Secretary of the board.

The biggest applause for the evening was when it was announced that current President Rafael Gordillo was resigning after having managed the club during the turbulence after Lolo was kicked to the curb after being thrown under the bus. The Beticos were totally appreciative of all the hard work that Gordillo had done this past year in getting the club promoted to Primera, getting the lowdown on the debts that the club had accumulated thanks to Lolo and providing sane leadership in a time of need. He will be missed but not for long as he was selected for the soon to be formed Real Betis Balompie Foundation as the President.

This Betico says thanks Gordillo for everything you have done since being appointed as President of the club.

The 2011-12 La Liga Schedule was released today and believe it or not the first match of the season will be at home on 21 August and it is the Derby Sevillano!!

Here is the official schedule for the entire season for La Liga.

Big dates for Betis are as follows:

Sevilla 20/21 August and 21/22 Jan.
Barca 14/15 Jan away, 12/13 May @ home
Madrid 15/16 Oct. away and 10/11 March @ home.

The last 4 weeks of the liga at first view look real tough:
    @ Valencia
    Sporting
    @ A. Madrid
    Barca

I am looking forward to seeing Er Glorioso on US TV after a two year hiatus!

Betis today signed Wigan midfielder Antonio Amaya for three years. Amaya used to play for Rayo and Pepe Mel was his coach before he moved onto Wigan.

No terms were announced on the contract.

One of my favorite players appears to be leaving Los VerdiBlancos. I guess Emaná is close to signing a deal w/ Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia. IMHO Emaná played better w/ Los VerdiBlancos than he did w/ The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

He's not leaving anytime soon as he has been directed to get his ass on the next flight to UK and linkup with the team as he is still a Betico!

The match against Pompey "Portsmouth" was cancelled due to a catering truck hitting their airplane on the tarmac and having to catch a later flight and not being able to arrive in the UK until Sunday.

So with Pompey out of the country so to speak Er Glorioso took on Havant and Waterloo a Blue Square Conference team, and beat then 0-7 tonight. Here is the match review in English:
