Wakey wakey from your international break slumbers, and let's get back to following AVB's Lillywhite Army!! Game is Sunday, 11AM EST. Live on FSC.

    Head-to-head
    • Spurs are unbeaten in their last five league and cup games against Reading.
    Reading
    • Reading did not fail to register a win in the first three games of their previous two Premier League seasons.
    • A goal for the Royals would be their 50th at home in the Premier League.
    • Reading managed just 19 home goals in their last Premier League campaign (2007-08) - the second lowest in the division that season.
    Tottenham
    • Tottenham have won just one of their last 11 Premier League away games.
    • Andre Villas Boas has won only three of his last 15 Premier League games.
    • Aaron Lennon is poised to make his 200th Premier League appearance for Spurs.
    Lineups? How's about

    --------- Friedel ----------
    Walker - JV - Gallas - BAE
    - Sandro - Sigi - Dembele -
    Dempsey - Ade - Bale

Predictions? Will we get our first win?

there's a post on SC regarding today's press conference, in which a number of AVB's comments are addressed. among them is one where he points out that, among this window's signings, siggy is the only one to have started his first match ... ade, verts, dembele, etc., all came off the bench. another referred to AVB being pleased that there were no injuries during the internationals week ... but that dempsey and sandro are jetlagged.

now, i know nothing of the context of these comments, and perhaps i'm jumping to a conclusion here, but it seems to me that these may be implying that dempsey won't be in the first XI come sunday. i hope that's wrong, of course.

    That lineup looks good.

This is the kinda of must-win game. If not, the players confidence level will go lower and AVB will not last long.

Dempsey was not sharp in the two qualies, and he's only now working himself into match fitness. Starting him would be setting him up to fail... a late game sub, maybe at the 70th minute mark if we need some offense, would probably be about right.

No reason to start Dempsey ahead of Lennon at this stage.

Ade and Dembele must start this time though. Hopefully Sandro keeps his place and he drops Livermore. Or at least starts Caulker with Gallas and shift Vertonghen into midfield. Livermore was shocking against Norwich and looked deadweight so far.

Shit is it already time to return to club football hell?

I agree with you guys. Lennon's gotta start here. Deuce isn't match-level yet and hasn't practiced with the team much thanks to the international break. Plus, Azza's been one of the most threatening players in attack so far this season (not that it's saying much). Ade, Dembele, Siggy all need to start. Love to see a 4-3-3- with JV + Caulker at CD, Sandro at DM, Dembele & Siggy at CM and Lennon, Ade, and Bale up top.

    Reading XI:
    McCarthy
    Gunter, Harte, Gorkss, Pearce
    Karacan, Leigertwood, McAnuff, McCleary
    Guthrie
    Pogrebnyak

    Spurs XI:
    Friedel
    Walker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Naughton
    Sandro, Dembele
    Lennon, Sigurdsson, Bale
    Defoe

Bench: Lloris, Caulker, Dawson, Huddlestone, Townsend, Adebayor, Dempsey

    Hmmm. Interesting choice in Naughton.

I don't know what the eff is going on here. I get Lloris and Dempsey on the bench, but we absolutely need Ade up front if we're gonna score early and control the game

This has been the best first fifteen minutes yet this season. Dembele is making a bigger impact in midfield than I thought he would

So far AVB persisting with Defoe, Friedel and Lennon looking the right choices.

Dembele in for Livermore is such a big help for us, individually and for the balance, looking much more creative and in control.

Lack of 2nd goal after two sitters is worrying.
