I think Segares will be taken in the second round, my bet is he's take before we pick so we'd have to trade up. Rodney Wallace plays some left back but I'd say he's more of a midfielder and I think Robert would hate him anyway.
What's a Keith Laughlin? For the record, I am not sure if anyone, especially the people who wrote them, understand MLS rules.
Likely very few players will be chosen in the first stage. Only 5 total were chosen in that stage in the last two drafts combined. Of those, only two were players with an option--the other three were out of contract. In the first round you have to pick up the contract or make an offer at approximately that past season's salary. Not a lot of teams will do that.
You probably meant "who," but "what" might actually be the correct term in this case. A quick search reveals the phrase "high school soccer" and the word "douchebag." If we had a HS soccer thread this year, he probably would have been mentioned a few times.
He didn't do anything for us then. Now he's four years older. $70k is too much to pay for "veteran presence."
I was going for a Lou Brown/Charlie Donovan type exhange. Anyway - no I dont want Pat Noonan. He doesnt score goals.
He did one thing. He scored the goal in Toronto in 2008 that kept us undefeated against the hosers. That's enough sometimes. I wouldn't take him now, but he did do something.
Bill Archer -- If you have time for a story that won't make your blood boil, I have a feeling you know who this guy is.
So, it's December 5th. What, do you suppose, Brian Bliss is up to these days? He's knee deep in contract talks with veteren players and home grown rookies. He tells the local reporter that we're looking for younger (read cheaper) players. He says we don't have resources this year. Woa is Brian Bliss. Fact is we do have money available. And we do need to sign as many good players for as little money as possible. If Bliss can sign the homegrowns, our depth will improve. If he can sign miranda, renteria, or birchall, we'll regain some starters. I would like to see us sign one high quality wing player. we sucked so bad last year on the wings. Merem for half the season? That made me sick. we might as well put lampson out there. Please sign a quality (and fast) winger. Gaven is good. Merem was sh!t.
I don't get why Bliss saying that he "hopes" we'll be able to sign "2, maybe even 3" HomeGrown players has been interpreted as us not having the financial resources to sign these guys. They're cheap and we have a lot of space.
Agreed, I think its much more likely because Barson is considering Med School or Trapp might want to stay a year.
Why would you choose to drop a guy who is not as good as another guy in the same spot and is also over $50k cheaper (is that figure correct?) and then give him the reason to be salary cap considerations. It's bullshit. The manager is just a moron.
(1) We do not know what Birchall's option amount is. (2) Danny is out of contract. I'd be really surprised if they re-signed him at his current salary. Thus we really do not know what the price difference is. Folks have done a lot of calculating in this thread based on *this season's* numbers. Those are likely not the same as the numbers for 2013. We can expect that there were raises for in contract players or those whose options were picked up. We also have a full season of Higuain as DP. That's a large cap hit. We also know Bliss was quoted as saying that they had a new defender close to signing. That's another hit. Now you may be right that the manager is a moron--though, with the Crew, picking up players is as much a responsibility of the TD as the coach. But I'll maintain that as far as the cap/roster goes we just do not have enough data to make that determination. If you know the 2013 salaries and the 2013 cap number, I'd love to hear it. Then we'd have some facts to work with. But working off last years numbers is a WAG in most cases.
