I'm going offline for the rest of the day - some of the things posted on here have been stupid. We have more than enough talent to finish 4th, especially if we go out of the CL. Benitez, as much as I already want him gone, couldn't be worse than Grant, and Grant led us into second place and the CL final. I'll settle for that kind of Benitez crapperation.
Why would I "yield" to an argument that makes absolutely no sense? The poster named Yaroni is, in real life, a hermaphroditic hunchback who works as Rafa Benitez's personal nutsack washer. Don't even bother arguing this fact - I wouldn't expect an arguer like you to yield.
while i don't agree at all with anyone's suggestion that we should all just blindly support our club and back benitez, i do think some of you need to take a chill pill. rafa sucks, and this decision sucks. but the suggestions that we're not going to qualify for the CL next year, or that we're somehow out of the running for the PL, not to mention the cup competitions, is so irritatingly pessimistic.
Nice to see that pic. It shows rafa's got second job lined up if the footie managing doesn't work out.
I think the CL might be a bit hopeful but if the new fella can get us playing even HALF as well as we can, (as shown at the start of the campaign),we might still make a run at the EPL this year. It won't be easy what with a new manager and a partly new team but stranger things have happened Mind you.... not much
"guys! imagine [the best imaginable outcome from hiring Benitez actually happening]. wouldn't all your complaints be answered!?" no shit, sherlock. i think the argument today is whether Benitez will/can actually do those things.
wasn't one of the reasons, among many others, that benitez was sacked at Liverpool was because he consistently kept benching or pulling Torres and Gerrard off the field? this has to be terrible news for Torres
Remember there was an article way back quoting him saying we misuse him. But again, it wasn't meant as a serious comment.
I think Torres really likes him, again a quote way back iirc. But rafas mistake was that e opposite, he fielded him when he was still recovering from injury cuz livershit had no other strikers.
The thinking would be that Torres played his best stuff for Liverpool, with Benitez really setting the team up to accommodate him (sitting deep, with Alonso and Gerrard able to release him in behind). The problem, of course, is that we don't have the personnel for it, and in any case Torres has physically declined since his peak at Liverpool. So I don't see it happening. There might be a bit of a 'honeymoon' period where Torres' form picks up (a bit like at the start of this season), but I'd be really surprised if he got back to anywhere close to his best for a sustained period of time.
I guess I'm at fault for the miscommunication, but I meant, I THINK there is a good chance rafa is a shit manager and as a result well end up a mid table at the end of the season a la livershit.
The first bit about us not having the personnel might be true, (although I don't think it is, tbh), but the second certainly shouldn't be. The guy's 28 so he SHOULD be pretty much at his peak physically. I don't think it's his physical attributes that's the problem, it's the mental aspects. His confidence is just shot to shit for some reason, If, by some strange quirk, Benitez COULD get that back then he should still be some player for us. Having said that I don't think it's gonna happen, as much as anything because I think his form was suffering at 'pool when Benitez was still there. It just continued when we bought him.
