sandrine dusang, with the help of lotta schelin, did an interview of pinoe in foot d'elles . i've asked for the original english version and since this is all folksy and friendly i just may get it. today's practice was my first chance in a while to see the team, but something came up, and saturday morning's practice was a lot more convenient anyway... and now the w/e schedule has changed : sunday's match in strasbourg is snowed out, so saturday pracrice will be replaced by a friendly here in lyon against FC Shanghai saturday at 4pm... which could be good news as it means pinoe's first game will at home, against an interbational opponent, and on a field where the players will be extra available (artificial turf oblige)... the problem being i have a previous engagement at the same time that's pretty important... but which will be cancelled if we get anything more than a dusting of snow... but which in turn may result in this match also being cancelled. so anything can happen. i'd say it's 50-50 i'll have some MR news for you this w/e. edit... maybe better. because with a match on sat. they're probably going to run sunday morning in a park right next to my neighborhood. i'll keep my eye out for their bus.
According to Le Sommer's twitter, Rapinoe scored today in Lyon's 5-0 win in a friendly vs FC Shanghai.
on a free kick apparently. here's a picture of her before the match that someone on the olweb forum posted (i think it was tweeted by the official OL twitter): my previous engagement was the type you can't blow off so i wasn't there. but tomorrow may get some pics of the team running... in the snow!
another pic of pinoe with louisa : rapinoe started and played the whole 90'; ohno came in at the end of the first half (she was going to play this match with the reserves even before the vendenheim match was postponed).
pretty adorable picture and they must be fun to see and watch on the pitch together. wait, they have rapinoe at lefback due to injury!! hahah
Are you grinning with glee? The first match and already a FB! (Even if one there due to injury elsewhere.)
fullback is not a catchall position, the one where you put the last kid picked. it's not right field. in the modern game, and as played by OL (and very few other women's teams) it is a crucial post and imo pinoe is THE modern fullback. her great talent has forced her into spots where she is more central but her DNA is stamped laterale moderne.
Highlight video of Lyon (this is before Rapinoe was there). I love the dark pink uniforms. They are much better than the pink ones in WPS. Choose 720p video quality in the video. Nice socks Rapinoe.
yes, those fuchsia uniforms almost made me vomit when i saw the first pics but in fact they were beautiful, and looked as nice on the men as the women. those socks are for the CL kit and the jersey that goes with it is 3D.
sorry, kits change every season, this year's are : ____home__________away_________europe___ last time i was in the OL store they had some fuchsia jerseys on the bargain rack. they were women's model, and at least two of them were flocked schelin and dickenmann.
and this just in : they have the fuchsia available online but only in kid's size (14 yr) and men's cut. http://boutique.olweb.fr/produits/320-maillot-europe-junior-1112-adidas.aspx note that picture is not correct : the shirt actually on sale has NO sponsor and cannot be personalized.
I didn't see any old stock in the adidas shop in Paris a couple months ago, it was all the new kit. According to their sizing 14 is 5'0" http://boutique.olweb.fr/rubrique/105-guide-des-tailles.aspx
some nice photos of the OL - Shanghai match : there are 110 more of them HERE. a few notes : - the referee is a man, which shows that the match was organized fairly hastily. in D1 the head referee is always a woman, although the majority of linesmen are probably male. - it was 2°C with freezing rain. and didine henry played the whole match w/o gloves, which seems pretty hardcore to me. ohno and a couple of chinese players eschewed them as well... but you'll see they tucked their hands well into their sleeves! louisa started w/o gloves... and corine franco started the match barehanded... and in short sleeves! but both came to their senses at HT. - you'll see it's getting pretty dark near the end. i didn't even know this field was lit, and it certainly isn't lit well enough to be homologated for D1 night play.
another note that came to mind. you'll see OL is playing at home with their away kits, which is an absolute first for me. the reason must be that that's what had already been prepared for this weekend.
Interesting, has anyone seen her take a free kick with her left foot before? I can't say I ever did. Thanks for posting.
i'd always been led to believe her right foot was her best but what i saw of her in one practice mde me doubt.
