Hey, it's the home opener! Maybe we should have a game thread. Will Sanchez start? Will Serna start again? Will Torres be more involved? Will Brown keep his head up a little more?
Prediction: rapids 3-1 timbers Home opener+altitude+snow squals=easy victory NOTE:Only negative is that the replacement refs are gone. Bummer!
2-1 victory for the Rapids. This is hopeful. With poor weather the stands will be at most half full, even on opening day, giving the Rapids less support to push through to victory. Portland plays in some pretty crappy weather so I am not convinced the precipitation will benefit us all that much. Altitude will as long as we can push hard in the second half. I've called a victory here, but honestly, the Rapids could get sucker punched if they don't have a good day. Portland will play to win with 2 ties at home to open the season. Goals by Torres and Serna.
I hope it doesn't come to that. What are people hearing? At the Denver Post site I see a 30% chance of precipitation Saturday. Things can change, maybe it will just be overcast.
I think people are overestimating the weather. It'll be fine. Also, based on the absolutely disgusting farce that was last year's opening day, I'm pretty sure mediocre weather on Saturday is significantly better than postponing the game.
True. I've only checked my iPhone and Bianchi's tweets. This spring weather can come to absolutely nothing all of a sudden, so I certainly hope the weather is at least tolerable, if not inching into "good".
The weather forecast has been getting worse as the week goes on. Originally it was high 40s and sunny, now its high-30s/low-40s with a 30-50% chance of rain or snow.
Actually quite pleased about that part - but then I'm a ref and have worked with several of the PSRA refs as well as the replacements - and we want the PSRA refs back - but that's a whole 'nuther story....
I see Buddle getting start and think Serna would be coming off and Brown sliding over. With weather I don't see Sanchez getting into XI.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...xpects-play-vs-portland-timbers-saturday-clin Powers is good to good after his head knock vs. NYRB. He still may not be able to go the full 90, though. Irwin is still a question mark. he didn't train on Wednesday and his words don't sound too confident. Berner may get his second straight start.
We are Coloradans! It's one of the few places on earth where it's not uncommon to see your shorts and t-shirts hanging in your closet, year round, next to your bid down jacket. We know the weather is crazy. It's part of our mystique. That's why I also laugh when I hear people wavering on attending the match if the weather gets a little iffy. Those aren't true fans! My family will be there regardless. Well.........the 7 month old may not be if the weather is iffy but grandma is a more than a willing babysitter.
I use a weather app called Dark Sky and it says: Saturday Hi: 46F Lo: 35F 85% chance of precipitation with rain starting at 2pm turning to snow around 6pm... Given spring in Colorado that means it could be a blizzard and 14F or 60F and sunny by Saturday...It would be sad if the stadium is half full due to the weather reports. My 7 year old kid has been bouncing off the walls about the game since his 2014 replica jersey arrived so we are going rain, snow, or otherwise...
I gotta show - good friend from Portland will be in town - so I'll even show up for my first Supporter's tailgate....depending on the result of the match, my friend may or may not have a bed in which to sleep that night.
I'm going to rage pretty damn hard if they postpone the game, as will most of the Rapids fans and the 80-ish people making the trip from Portland. What garbage.
My bet is that Bianchi is just trying to drive interest and hits. I haven't heard the idea of postponement from anyone else in any medium other than Bianchi's tweets.
You need to blog that they are definitely going to postpone it and TH can chime in with how ridiculous that is and lock them in to playing? ;>)
Dillon Serna possibly hurt for this match? From a DPost story on Serna: The article also says Serna prefers to play on the right so he can cut in and shoot off his favored left leg.
