The people have asked for a gameday thread. The people gets what dey wants.
I’m too superstitious to start them most of the time. Like Crash Davis says, "Don't ******** with a streak."
If the Rapids pull together and give us another great performance like they did against VAN, they can win. If they have difficulty acting like a soccer team (most recent CHV match) then I think a loss is inevitable. That said, I voted a tie to be optimistic and conservative at the same time. Hope they can prove me wrong and win. 2-2 draw. Goals by Brown and Powers or Sanchez (I don't feel the Torres storm just yet...maybe after the next round of WC qualifiers).
Draw would be a good result. Loss wouldn't be horrible, all things considered. Win would be huge, it would put us in position to make the playoffs just by winning our remaining home games.
The Rapids need all their home points plus 3 points from the road. I don't trust that they can get 3 wins at home and 3 draws on the road, so a win here would be huge.
Yeah, anything they can do to take some of the pressure off would be huge. From past years, though, I'm not expecting them to make it any easier on us.
With the bye week they should be fired up and fine tuned. I would love a victory here and even a tie is a decent victory in a place we really don't win at.
This was KC's starting lineup:
*more or less regular starter
Bieler went 48, Feilhaber 67, Nagumura 78, the rest went 90.
60+ Rapids fans are making the trek out to KC for this one. Should be fun.
Just for the record:
1. Saad has also been a regular starter for a while now.
2. Feilhaber has only been starting lately because of injuries to Zusi and Kamara.
3. Nagamura had not played at all in two months before last night due to an injury.
How many are going up so far for the Portland game?
I don't have any numbers yet (I'm not the C38 organizer for road trips). I know a handful of people want to go, including myself.
Vid of Rapids in training. You get to see pretty much everybody.
Also, Power Rankings Roundup:
SKC finally has a game day thread up. First 3 posts:
No reason not to go with the last lineup that beat Vancouver 2-0.
I don't think Rivero wins a starting spot in an off week, so he subs. Lot of good options off the bench depending on game situation. (LaBrocca--assist, Buddle--goal, Mera--size).
I like this lineup. As much as I would love to see Rivero start, I can't see where. Maybe in place of Sanchez or Powers, but both have impressed tremendously. I never thought I would say Rivero as a sub when healthy!
I really hope they keep the backline as-is. They are playing well together.
Seeing how close the point totals have come in both conferences, all the games are kind of high pressure for just about everyone. No team can afford to drop points at home now, and they'll have to battlefor even the draw on the road since every point counts.
It won't affect Saturday, but O'Neill's next yellow card will get him a suspension for accumulation. Sturgis, too.
Is Harris healthy and ready to come off the bench? I ask cause this is the last game with Torres for a while, and we'll need another attacker in the top 3 with Buddle or Brown taking the very top.
Torres plays with Panama on 9/6 and 9/10. Our next game after the LA game on the 7th is on the 14th (at home against Dallas). Unless I am missing something, Torres will be out only one game. And given that LA will be missing Donavan, Gonzalez, and Keane...I'd say we got the better DP-gone deal than they did.
I wonder if the Gold Cup will elevate Torres's status with the team? In the 3 June qualifiers, he was on the bench but did not play, entered as a sub after 68, and then after 78. It doesn't look like he was on gameday roster for the earlier hex qualifiers.
I probed one of our road trip guys about it yesterday, I'm thinking they'll be about 20 people going.
Rivero > Sturgis in my opinion.
Is it really a choice between Rivero and Sturgis? I can see choices of Sturgis and Powers, or Powers and Rivero, but not Rivero and Sturgis.
