The only two we haven't seen yet this year are are Portland and WNY. We know Portland's will be good. WNY had arguably the worst stream last year (Morgan would agree). Stream Quality 1.) Houston Dash 2.) Seattle Reign 3.) Boston Breakers 4.) Washington Spirit 5.) FCKC (this had potential, but it was a "fuzzy" 720p. hopefully they straighten out the fuzziness) 6.) Sky Blue 7.) Chicago (the video picture looked old school)
Who in Boston thought the sound of punches would make a great sound effect for instant replays??? I saw the game and couldn't stop laughing when it came on... WTF?
1. Houston Dash 2. Seattle Reign 3. Boston Breakers 4. Washington Spirit 5. Sky Blue 6. Chicago 7. FCKC While Chicago's wasn't HD, it at least didn't seem to have a layer of vaseline on the lens like at KC...
That's true. But it did have a 1980's style picture to it. Which brings you back to the 80's ..........
Allow me to rank the May 3 streams SB VS Bos Didnt actually see it but it was down for a while Sea VS Wash died completely in the 62 minute ..also skipped for a couple minutes during the Fishlock goal WNY VS Port postponed by lightning then the stream died for a while Hou VS KC No stream for 1st half Double image for 2nd half. There was actually a point in time when all four games were down at the same time.
My ranking tonight:Worst to ok! 1. DC- can't DC find a camera man who can follow the action-ball? AwFUL! Watch the last 38 minutes...I'm blind! 2.Houstons Split screen in the second half! WoW That didn't accomplish a thing. 3. WNY was ok after the delay......Portland should have won! 4. Sky Blue of all games was the Winner of the evening! Lastly, if the NWSL wants to be taken seriously, a basic stream that can be seen with today's technology, a camera-person who can follow the game action(BALL), announcers who have done their homework on the teams and players, all need professionals to do this work. Don't just hire any joes off the street. It shows! I guess the reply back will be "you get what you pay for"!
Well I know they r blaming it on Youtube or the fact that all four were on at the same time but how the hell did Houston manage the double image?
Washington vs. Seattle is now up in full (all 90+ minutes). So it could have been a YouTube problem after all.
If Comcast Houston was able to broadcast the game on TV with one image (instead of double), then maybe it'll be archived in one layer instead of two. Let's hope.
I think SkyBlue has greatly improved their stream from last season. All of the games I've seen from them are much better in visual quality and the commentary is a complete 180 from the insane drivel they forced on us last year.
The Dash game is archived, and it definitely wasn't a YouTube problem for them. They ended up archiving the double screen version (2nd half only), so that's on them, not on YouTube. The other matches were archived in full, so it looks like it was a YouTube problem for every team but the Dash.
The league should invest in this commentating team from this college game streamed earlier today. This is quite comical. Certainly not as vocal as the NWSL broadcast teams on all the league wide streams. http://www.themw.com/#!/watch-live#5011
That Chicago stream yesterday was so hard to watch, I swear they were filming it in 3D! Why was the field looking like it was collapsing onto itself? I know these "camera people" might be just amateurs or interns but at least know the basics of video production! You balance the camera on the tripod by moving the bubble in the middle and locking it in. You white balance the camera by flooding the frame with a white object or paper and hit the AWB button. if the field is underexposed you open your iris up, if your field is overexposed you turn down the iris.
Wow ... I didn't know any of that I plan to wear a GoProHD to WWC'15. Should I study that? Or are those adjustments beyond what a fixed-lens camera can do?
So why does ESPN use the local Thorns commentators in Portland, but not in Seattle? Not aware of how this was done at other locations. Were the Seattle people not available?
1) ESPN did not do any games in Seattle 2) All ESPN3 games were just rebroadcasts of the team's local CSN broadcast
Thanks. I mistook the last Thorns game in Seattle for an ESPN broadcast but that makes sense, must have been local subs on the local stream. Forgot where I launched the stream, back then, with recent ESPN games (which i can't watch live).
My final rankings (Decided by stream quality and announcers) 1) Houston Dash- Stream is clear, announcers are fine 2) Seattle Reign- Best announcers, Very clear stream but can be dizzying 3) Portland Thorns- Great stream, Annoying announcers, Replays have caused stream to miss goal scoring opportunities on more than one occasion 4) Washington Spirit- stream is very clear, announcers are okay, some angles they choose to show are awful 5) Boston Breakers- Kind of makes me dizzy, but it's fine 6) FCKC- Could be better, could be worse 7) SBFC- not a very clear stream, but announcers are good and it's a huge improvement from last year (They added a scoreboard with time!) 8) Chicago- Stream is alright, but announcers can be just awful (i.e. "it's over the bar, not wait it's in" and "it goes out for a corner, no wait it's a pk") 9) WNY Flash- Perfect combination of a bad stream with awful announcers
