Never really saw Mathis is a coaching type, but people can surprise you, and you never really know until they get into it. BTW, I think it is pretty clear Robbie Keane is going into coaching when he is done with playing. I suspect he'll go back to Ireland or England to coach lower leagues for a bit. It sounds like while he's happy in LA, it took some adjusting and I don't get the feeling he wants to stay in the States long term. I think he'll actually be a really good coach after a few years of experience. He combines kind of an innate understanding of the game with a lot of thought about what goes into it, and I love that he's already using his down time to take his classes. Smart guy, motivated, passionate---I think he'll be good.
The biggest concern would be the attitude he takes in the heat of the moment towards others. I have no doubt he's a good helper/motivator, but the demonstrative way he deals with the other players who don't do what he wants is down right terrible at times.
True, but I think that gets evened out by a couple of things: it's harder to keep your cool when you are playing and in the moment. Also, I'm pretty sure that's what part of the coaches training is all about---learning how to motivate in ways that players respond to. I think he'll figure it out. He'll always be fiesty, though, and that's not always a bad thing.
from a reddit post... LA Galaxy equipment manager, Raul Vargas, has kept Hong Myung Bo's cleats he wore 11 years ago. Touching little reunion. pics in 2nd link
It'd be awesome if he stayed in the US and especially stayed to work with the Galaxy. Clearly he's a Galaxy legend in the making.
@BrianSciaretta: Bob Bradley's Stabaek thrashed Honefoss 7-2 in a friendly today. Former Galaxy mid Michael Stephens, on a trial, with 2 goals for Stabaek.
That is really smart, putting a billboard like that right in Gyasi's own neighborhood. Great marketing.
I've seen the Gyasi billboard driving on the freeway (not that particular one though). I like to believe that for every billboard like this there'll 10 kids that will want to see themselves on billboards in a Galaxy shirt someday.
I saw a Zardes billboard on the 5 south on the way to Anaheim on Tuesday, followed by a Donovan billboard. Then heading north on the way home saw an Omar Gonzales billboard in the same area.
Good job, Cobi! @TaylorTwellman: And yes @LAGalaxy fans every time I say hi to him @cobijones reminds me of 2002/2005 don't you worry.
Yeah, in just my regular commuting, which isn't that extensive, I've seen 4 or so different billboards...
Congrats, Mikey. @BrianSciaretta: Bob Bradley has signed an American as Michael Stephens puts pen to paper this morning ( via @Stabaek)
http://www.lagalaxy.com/news/2014/0...-become-offensive-force-after-struggling-2013 Good to hear that Juninho is having one of his best preseasons. It would be great to see a new dynamism going forward from him. He just wasn't that sharp to start the year last year, and that has been a trend in his career, so hopefully he will get off to a faster start.
That is good news. I wonder if having Donovan in camp from the beginning will help the team start on a sharper note. Having competition from all our new experienced midfielders can't hurt either.
@BrianSciaretta: It really is great to see that Stabaek's own supporters pitched in to raise money to sign American mid Michael Stephens.
C'mon, we're the group who would have pitched in to get Alan Gordon tickets to Dave Matthews at one point a few years back.
