"Steve Irwin dead" (Monday, 9/4/06)
Holy crap. It was just a matter of time for this guy, I guess.
Man that is so sad. Thanks for everything Steve Irwin.
Very sad indeed. He was nutty and funny and I so admire the work that he did.
rip my man.
yep, it's sad...left two small children.
With all the crazy/scary stuff he did, to be killed by a Stingray just seems weird.
You always thought it would be a croc that would have the last laugh. Not so. I always thought he would get bit but instead the sting was very deadly.
R.I.P. Croc hunter.
i saw that when i woke up.. i was shocked
after everything he's been through, it almost felt he was invincible
Good gob in posting this thread.
This is terrible news. He will be missed.
I'm a huge fan of his and Terri's. I really admired the conservationist message that they carried all over the world. My heart goes out to her and her children, Bindi & Bob.
What a bummer. I'm really saddened by this.
While he was a wild and crazy TV personality, he did a lot for conservation, raised loads of money, spread the word, and was generally a champion for conservation. What a drag.
I thought he'd get taken out by a poisonous snake. A sting ray? That's just bizzare.
Rest in Peace, Crock Hunter!
that is probably what did him in. He thought he was invincible too.
As much he did for bringing awareness to our planet, I suspect that after you get 3' from a croc, then 1', then stick your head in its jaws, after a while, you just don't get your adrenaline fix unless you are doing something new.
His "baby dangling" was a perfect example of his adrenaline junkie personality. Nothing bad, just kind of makes you think about it. He lived life the way he wanted to and in that sense, he did give us a lot and tried to help the planet along the way...while he had fun. Not a bad life really. It just ended way too soon.
but, should they show it on TV? probably not...only a bunch of sick freako's would want to see something like that
Are you kidding????
it's a terrible tragedy...I was surprised there was that debate in the paper.
Great article on Steve in Salon. You might have to suffer through a commercial.
I must have missed that "stick your head in a crocodile's jaws" bit. Is there a video somewhere, perhaps? It sounds infinitley insane - exactly what he would have done.
I do remember the baby dangling, and the great uproar it caused (justifiably so) all over the world. But sticking head in a crocodile's jaws tops all forms of madness.
In justification to Steve, he pointed out later that he had all kinds of safeguards in place to prevent anything bad from happening. However, all the critics saw was Steve's baby and the meat for the croc.
