Anything you want to know about Aussie Rules, I will try my best to answer. I am here to help. And oh yeah... GO CATS!! Geelong into the preseason competition final, with a narrow one-point win over Melbourne at Telstra Dome last night. Some news links... edited out by Bhoysfc1995 to keep this as a Q & A only
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy Question about the season ahead... Now that the AFL season is upon us, and starting this weekend, can we discuss singular games as individual threads-- eg., "Geelong v St Kilda, Rd 1 {R}"-- or would we have to nominate threads that say "AFL Round 1 {R}"? I might actually be at that Geelong v St Kilda match at Telstra Dome in Melbourne this coming Saturday night, as the Cats look to gain revenge for their Wizard Cup grand final defeat against the Saints.
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy An AFL Round 1 [R] type thread seems reasonable. Or even a single thread for the entire thread (similar to the Super 12 or Rugby World Cup threads) would do. There just isn't enough traffic here like bigfooty.com to justify individual threads for specific matches.
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy Then that's what I shall start, in this forum. However, a strong concentration on my contributions will be on the St. Kilda v Geelong match... just a warning to the masses.
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy I bet no one knows who the last person to captain England in 2 sports is... hint... one of them is cricket...
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy That is a great trivia question... I'm sure one of our more advanced Google-ists will know the answer, or at least how to arrive at it.
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy I think even that would be a tough find... its a 100 years ago...
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy Well I was actually looking through some of my cricket books last night at home and thought it was going to be pre-Bradman era. I'll take a guess and say Hon. F.S. Jackson?
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy The only one I can think of is JWHT Douglas. He won a boxing gold medal at the 1908 Olympics (on a points decision over the Aussie Snowy Baker - the referee was Douglas' father).
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy He wouldn't have captained England in boxing though, because that's an individual sport.
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy I know - but he could have been captain of the Olympic team (also given that he was an all-round sportsman there was a chance he played something else as well)
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy England captains with 7 letters (pre '60's): FS Jackson JWHT Douglas APF Chapman GTS Stevens DR Jardine CF Walters WR Hammond NWD Yardley MC Cowdrey

Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy Sorry, misunderstanding.... BS would not let me put just "Nope" it said I needed at least 7 charachters, this guys last name has 6 letters.
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy So I am watching Aussie rules ok, and what do I see to my horor!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Goal Judges are no longer wearing there stylish White Coats and Hats. When did this debacle occur?
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy Start of the 2002 season, I think-- when the AFL struck a sponsorship deal with the Aussie-based Wizard Home Loans which in part gave them naming rights for the preseason competition. The umpires, all of them and not just the goal umpires, were decked out in Wizard's signature colour of orange as part of the agreement. Since then, the umpies have been in other colours as well, including yellow and red. They will still occasionally wear white, except for the goal umpires, I think.
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy That's not enirely correct, the umpires wear either yellow, red, orange or white uniforms, depending on the colours of the two teams playing in the match. All umpires wear the same colours, and it's mainly to prevent colour clashes for the tv audience, crowd and players as well.
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy Cricket Rules Compared to Baseball a good link explaining cricket to baseball fans
Re: Questions on Cricket/Rugby/Aussie Footy In Aussie Rules why do you bounce the ball on the ground when running, do you have to do it? And can you take someone out when they are going on a run?
