Hey Falvo......nice pics! Would be cool to see some aerial photos. Of course.....there is NEVER an NSA drone around when you really need one....;-)
Is the stadium capacity 18,000? Curious to know if they could expand in 5, 10 years if necessary. 18K seems low for a new stadium given the current state of MLS and its upside, but then again, I might be completely off and 18K seems like perfectly fine for the next 10 years or so.
LOL, can't help you there. A friend of mine had a Cessna Aircraft parked right across the street at the Coleman side of the San Jose Airport but he sold it when they got rid of all of them a few years back and relocated all the small planes. Either way, although I wish they were at this point this time last year, I'm happy with the progress of the stadium. Guess its true that happiness comes to those who wait. Goodsport knows more but I read or heard once that they might be planning expansion behind the goal. Kind of like what San Jose's Spartan Stadium has in mind...
Yes, they have hinted at adding a stand at the open end if demand warrants it in the future. However, needing to design in the scoreboard board would require a different design from what the closed end currently looks like.
Based on the permits as well, I think it could be a long process that might not be approved. We'll see what happens to traffic and the neighbors measured by the Quakes new stadium but also the new 49ers stadium which is near by (which is going to be a cluster f*** for anyone living or trying to travel near-by).
Will the open end be where a stage ends up for concerts, etc? If so, they could always do something similar to Columbus and add seats on top of the stage for bigger games, although I would like to see them someday enclose it and make it symmetrical .
Worse that the airplanes constantly landing and taking off the adjacent runway? Not sure how much more noise 5k-10k more fans will make than those planes. I was down there on Saturday morning taking pics and no one was around but those planes were deafening and I couldn't hear my pals standing next to me. I'm sure the fans won't make more noise than that....
Yes, will have to see how things play out with traffic. If BART ever shows up it could help a lot in that regard, but, at this time all vehicle traffic has to come in and leave on Coleman. One good thing is that on a Saturday night there usually isn't much traffic there. The 49ers traffic issues are on a magnitude much greater than the Quakes. I feel sorry for anyone living near Levi's.
Those planes were likely taking off to the south (because of the bad weather). Take offs that direction only account for 15% of take offs and nearly all of those happen November-April. So, I doubt we will experience many south take-offs in the new stadium. And planes landing from the south can barely be heard over the normal noises in the area. Airport noise will not be an issue at the new stadium!
Exactly! Therefore, neither will there be that much crowd noise! How much % of total crowd noise will there actually be for 15-20 games (if that) lasting 2 hours throughout the spring summer and fall months from March until October and that will really make a dent on peoples lives living 2 miles away? This alleged crowd noise in that area is completely exaggerated.
but wouldn't an enclosed stadium with a roof amplify that sound back into the stadium, and thus keeping it out of the neighborhood
Yea.. I was thinking about cars, tailgates, that kinda thing. Sound is a really soft argument (as already noted, due to the airport) but was used by the community to try can kill the project. It did kill the option for concerts (I'm guess the Quakes office didn't push that).
That actually makes it pretty impressive that this got done at all. That's a big revenue stream for most MLS stadiums.
It was a bone we threw to the local homeowners to placate them, no concerts, no tractor pulls, no rodeos and no X-Games. Our field will be soccer specific and pristine but with Bermuda grass, let LA whore out their stadium.
