The Quakes stadium is likely to be less complex than Houston's. Most of the luxury suites are at field level, there isn't much being built upwards except for the stands, press box, and roof. Probably a lot less engineering.
This rendering wasn't release by the team but by their development partner that's going to build out the rest of the ~75 acres as a business park. The stadium was included in a rendering of the entire development. I think this is the latest, albeit incomplete look at the stadium (the lower bowl isn't complete). But I'm not privy to inside info and things may have changed as the design was finalized. Anyway ... It's fun to look at.
Yeah, they left the lower bowl kind of vague. In the horseshoe end the supporter section is supposed to go down to the field, and no detail provided on the club and luxury suites on the sidelines. The video board will have a screen on both sides, so that grassy area can be used for different events and pre-game activities. There will be a "terrace" of several steps between the scoreboard (which will have a huge bar under it) and the field.
I've only been to 3 MLS stadia - PPL Park (duh), RBA, and drive-by of BBVA. All three have a steel structure and, by no means, do they look like Crew Stadium. Exposing the structure of a building doesn't necessarily make it boring and mundane, either.
Why do they have this rendering still on their website though? And they seem to be taking ticket reservations based on the other configuration. The rendering above seems to have a slightly more squared seating area. Unless people are just reserving sections with the understanding that the locations might change in 2014. http://www.sjearthquakes.com/newstadium
Good questions. The Quakes' insistence that fans purchase tickets for 2014 before showing final renderings requires that fans take a leap of faith based on the team's representations in glossy brochures and one-on-one telephone seat-selection interviews. I have no "understanding that the [seat] locations might change in 2014," and I'm fairly confident neither do other Quakes fans, many of whom, like me, will have each spent thousands of dollars in reasonable reliance on these representations.
I guess it behooves them to either stick as close to the advertised configuration as possible or release an updated configuration as soon as they break ground so that current deposit-holders can make the adjustments. That is unless they're prepared to annoy potential new fans and refund ppl's money. Ppl who buy tickets close to the field shouldn't have many issues. It's the ppl in the further sections and luxery boxes who might have to worry about their viewpoints changing. But the above rendering looks nice.
The "squarish" rendering wasn't done by the company designing the stadium. I wouldn't read a lot into it.
Does it being squared off have to change the way the bowl is configured? Wouldn't this just change the concourses? Edit: What FUAEG said.
Whoa this would be ten million times better than the original design.... Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Can you say, permits? https://twitter.com/QuakesPrez/status/304288895766523905 This permit deals with removing existing concrete and doing grade work. Hey, it's a start.

you would think that the SJ FO would use renderings of a brand new facility to help promote or at least hype up season ticket sales...you know with the promise of getting some degree of priority seating in the new digs.
From what has been reported, season ticket sales for the new stadium are exceeding their expectations at this time, and we have an entire year to sell more. They spent a lot of time working through the current STHers, who did get priority based on years of having tickets and how expensive their seats were at Buck Shaw. From what I have heard many of them bought more than they currently have.
do they have one of those Virtual Venues for STHs to see views from seats that many other teams have and have had with new stadiums?
