I was told that you cannot forfeit area games. I didn't know the consequences though.

This doesn't make sense to me, why are you going to have a team if you aren't going to play?

I feel bad for all the teams in our area like Victory Christian, Moody, SMC ... etc.. who don't have a chance to win but always come out.

I was very wary when Hayes fielded a team because they didn't have a team at the start of the season. I called their AD and he said they were having a boys team but not a girls team. I asked the referee assignor did Hayes have non-area games scheduled and he said a few. As far as teams like Moody & the like:it is good to see soccer moving out of the suburbs and in to outer lying areas. It will take time and people getting a club program started(which Moody has I think) before they will start to progress.

I take it SMC is Shades Mountain Christian? Oh how times change I guess. They used to be really good when I was in school. Altamonte was terrible then (maybe they still are.)

I remember back when I was freshman we destroyed SMC and Chelsea who are in our area 10-0 almost everytime. This year we won the four games by a combined score of 11-0 and this is our best team since I have been at Springs.

It's really kinda interesting to see their soccer programs develop at some of the smaller schools.

Altamont is pretty good now. Girls are ranked 2nd in 4A and boys are ranked 7th though their record is 2-7 according to the latest poll. Altamont boys have played a tough schedule:

    Lost to Indian Springs 2-0
    Lost to Grissom 7-0
    Lost to Randolph 4-1
    Beat Shades Mtn Ch 6-0
Lost to Indian Springs 1-0 OT
    Lost to Oak Mtn 6-0
    Beat Chelsea 3-1
    Lost to Shades Valley 1-0
    Lost to Vestavia 1-0

Altamont is a pretty good side. They graduated a keeper a year or so ago that I believe is playing at UAB. We beat them 1-0 in OT and 2-0 this year.

Jeremy Drake is the ex-Altamont GK playing at UAB. Michael Biggs also ex of Altamont plays at UAB.

we have three games this week(two area and one local rival). Briarwood is up on Wednesday. They are favored as they beat us 3-2 at home earlier. If we could somehow beat them by 2 goals we'd be area champs. Thursday we have Ramsay who we will crush(11-0 last time). Their coach got mad at me cos I didn't stop scoring at 10 in the last game. Friday we play John Carroll. Our fields are less than a mile apart as the crow flies. We haven't played them in a few years. They seem to be having a bit of a down year for them but I'm sure they will still be a stiff test especially having played two games already that week.

Do you have to win your section to make the state playoffs?

If so, that would stink to be ranked third and not make the tourney.

In Michigan regular season and state playoffs are seperated. We play in a conference for the regular season, and then everyone is seperated into districts for playoffs. 7 or 8 teams to a district winner goes to regionals 2 wins there to final four and two wins for championship.

pvan, to bring up the subject we were discussing earlier...

Victory Christian cancelled their area game against Altamont but the state is allowing them to play out the rest of their schedule apparently because we have to play them tommorrow.

So I don't know what the deal is with that rule.

We beat Briarwood 3-1 today. We bombed them in the 1st half 3-0 and survived the 2nd half onslaught. More details later.

last two games of the week:

Thursday we clinched the area title with a 12-0 win over Ramsay. The game almost didn't happen as the ref was not happy with the barely lined field. I pleaded my case as I didn't wanna have to reschedule with this team. Today we played poorly and tied 0-0 vs a 6A team that was good but not better than us. One more regular season game and then we are in to the playoffs.

Our last regular season game is scheduled for tomorrow. Big chance of thunderstorms though which means a very real chance of a cancellation. That would mean we would not have a game in over a week before we play again in the first round of the state playoffs.

Just played our last regular season game. Got smacked 4-1 by Ft Payne. I intentionally trotted out a mixture of first teamers and reserves in order to simulate a scenario where we had to play without some regulars. My star stud freshman went out in the first half with a hamstring tweak. Hope it is nothing major. Our first round opponent in the playoffs is very weak so I can rest her for that game. Could probably get by without her for the 2nd round but definitely need her for the semis.
