Why is it considered humane and merciful to put a horse like Barbaro to sleep, but it isn't morally acceptable to do the same to a person?

Why is it OK to eat cows and chickens, but not OK to eat a human?

Beats me. Actually, Oregon has an assisted suicide law so that's a step in the right direction.

Clearly, it's because we value human life; as long as it (A) looks more or less like us and (B) thinks pretty much like we do and (C) salutes the same flag we or our immediate ancestors do. We want these people to live, no matter how distressing that thought is to them. The rest of the bastards can fry.

We had to put one of our cats to sleep a couple of weeks ago.

That sucks, Jeremy. My dog is 9, and while he's a Westie and they commonly live into their very late teens, I'm definitely not looking forward to the day I'll have to make that decision. I hope that I'll be able to do the right thing, but it'll be one of the hardest things I'll ever have to do. He's a great companion and friend, and has the best heart of any living creature of any species that I've ever encountered.

Do horses routinely commit suicide in Oregon?

I want to post on this thread, but in the off chance my aged parents are reading, I think I'll keep quiet. ;)

Sorry about the hip grandma. Love you.

Now you're going feel a little stick and then you'll start to feel drowsy...

And when will that become a decision made by a HMO or insurance company to deny further intensive/long term/hospice care when there is no hope of recovery.

Or made by someone with guardian/POA status...

Scary thought. All I know is I'm not going out that way. I told my brother a long time ago to wheel my ass off of a cliff when the time comes. Just take me to the edge of the Grand Canyon and forget to set the parking break.

I was thinking of uscrupulous family members and a revised last will and testament. But your scenario is pretty creepy, too.

Oh great - just leave your mess for the rest of us to clean up. Thanks a lot.

Pshaw, let the buzzards pick my carcass clean. I don't care. It's not like I'll be around to feel it. And it's not like my rotting corpse will be in downtown New York. I'll be at the bottom of the frickin' Grand Canyon.

It was more the burning car wreck I was concerned with. You're just time-release fertilizer in my book.

Well...because cows and chickens are made of meat.

Cows and chickens eat less junk food. All those preservatives and processed food make humans pretty nasty eating.

Free range humans, on the other hand, might be acceptable.

When I was at the Grand Canyon, it was more crowded than downtown New York.

Kill yourself. Westies f**king rule. They're little but they're tough as hell.

If your dog fits in a handbag, you may be a metrosexual.

Everyone knows that the only true dogs are those which are tall enough to support some sort of old-timey, quasi-bestial dirty dancing.

In the crevace or at the top where you can see everything? I doubt there a lot of foot traffic at the bottom. If there is, well then, my rotting corpse will just ad to the aura of a wasteland, albeit a beautiful one.
