2014 PRESEASON Who: Houston Dynamo v. Colorado Rapids When: Sunday, February 2 @ 11:00 AM CST Where: Houston Amateur Sports Park Records: Colorado (0-0-0) Houston Dynamo (1-0-0) This is the second preseason game for the Dynamo but the first against an MLS team. This will be the first preseason game for the Rapids. Brian Mullan, Danny Mwanga and Dillon Powers will miss the trip with injuries. Matt Pickens is out of camp for personal reasons. The Rapids are apparently training in Texas for a week before returning to Denver on February 7. The next game for Colorado is against in UNLV in Las Vegas on February 14. Houston defeated the Dynamo Academy, 4-0, on January 29. The next preseason game is in Tuscon, AZ against the Portland Timbers on February 5.
I thought Spencer had the inside track a few weeks back-I guess he's out of the running if they haven't hired as of yet
I read that the Dynamo are going to play FC Tucson in a closed scrimmage. Does anyone have an idea regarding the date/time?
"Expecting a large crowd..." Except it might be chilly and wet, which could keep the crowd down to Subway-manageable size.
rain was miserable. left at half time. 35 looked undersized and lost 28 looked fast and sharp not to sound racist, but it was really really weird to see a white backline.
28 is cascio. He seems to be good backup quality. I think 35 is sito seoane (trialist). He lost the ball a lot but did play some good balls forward. Doesn't seem to be Dom's kinda guy so I don't see him staying. Who is 45 (left back)? You could tell that the staff are getting some real looks at the outside back depth demo all the different looks. Even had Ownby there who served in a delicious cross that nobody capitalized on. Cummings seems to be really fit, but average speed now. We could really use a guy with wheels up top for a change of pace, but I don't think we are gonna get that. One takeaway I noticed is that Cochran has some really nice size. His ball control didn't seem too bad either. He probably needs to learn positionally a little bit, but I really like the upside with him.
45 was Euan Holden, Stuie's brother, guest player. Col won 3-2. Hou goals by Cascio and Barnes. They played 3 30-min periods, that was kind of interesting. They only changed ends between 2nd and 3rd periods. brahmafutbol, metroag, rey, Dr. Ludicrous and Nigel all suck. that is all.
I thought 35 looked decent. We should sign him for the league minimum. I've seen him twice and while he does lose the ball somewhat, I don't think he's as bad as some of y'all make him seem. However, I did vouch for the Brazilian Sato (I think...) that was let go. However, now that I look back, our midfield could've used him this past season.
Wait, I thought Sito was wearing 35 on Sunday? I thought Sito played better than Lopez. In all brutal honesty, Lopez seems to have no pace, no hunger, little confidence and seemingly having a hard time with going against bigger players. Looks like we didn't scout this guy very well. Don't they have a stop watch or were they getting played by some independent scout / agent? Certainly NOT young DP material Benji Joya is two times better than Lopez - I would rather sign him. Come on Canetti! When can we offload Lopez? If we can't get rid of him any time soon then we need to loan him to the R-hounds because he isn't going to improve playing at practice. He needs alot of games against weaker competition to get his confidence up. My other observations on the game: 1) Holden looked pretty decent at left back 2) What will Cascio cost if we excercise the option to buy him at the end of the loan? Good size, speed, touch, creativity, toughness. 3) Cochrane looked better than Horst did. 4) Driver looked rusty. 5) Barnes looked to me like the best player out there. Boniek was Boniek. 6) Ownby's good at midfield and great at getting forward to help the attack down in the corner. Right back shouldn't be his future. 7) Arena is better at left back not so much as a central defender 8) Bruin has not elevated his game since year 2. Good runs, physical with his body when he needs to be but time to step up - work on your left and quit going to your right foot every time, get more competitive in the air. 9) Guys next to me were calling Sherrod 'Weaver 2.0'. Maybe but he seems to be a smart player and is willing to battle in the air like Barnes. Doesn't have much pace but his hold up play wasn't bad - need to see more of him to form more of an opinion. 9) Seemed like our first team was playing their second team (we were dominant) in the first half and it looked ike our bench was playing thier fisrt team in teh latter stages of the game (they looked better) all though that's not what they game report lineups indicate. Rough weather but the field was good and the players were taking it seriously so it was worth the drive down. Great to watch my favorite team play again - sure better than the superbowl.
