Anybody got highlights? I watched some of it at my desk, but I missed both goals and a few sizable chunks of the match too.
Thanks vince. I am really hopeful that we can have some cohesive attacking play not centered around slamming crosses from a mile away when we get our fitness back.
Kind of surprised by all of the negativity surrounding the performance yesterday. Not stellar, but it was honestly what I expected. Defense: Nothing spectacular, but solid enough. Midfield: Limited without Carrick after his injury against Sunderland (what else did we expect), but functional for the most part (Giggs did let a few runners through). Attack: Apart from Young's stellar goal, it looked like a lot of guys coming back from injury (RVP and Rooney) or just getting to know each other (Mata and everyone). Lets wait and see how we look against Arsenal. We have two weeks to get Carrick's ankle right, and two games against Stoke and Fulham to work some of the rust of Rooney and RVP, while bringing Mata up to speed. Plus, another positive of yesterday's game was that we were able to rest Fletcher (he can't play every week) and give Januzaj a partial rest on the bench.
My biggest concern about the performance yesterday was that it was as boring as watching paint dry. I fell asleep with 10 minutes left in the first half. I understand that the most important thing for the team is to win games right now, but I think it would be concerning if we didn't care about how they were winning games.
Thanks guys for the analysis. I didn't watch the game, NBCSN showed Liverpool. Any positive signs in the tactics? we played a good team. EDIT: that goal by Young was what you would expect from him day in day out. Did he and Valencia play better?
If we're still playing close to how we did last night by the end of the season (and there's little reason to expect otherwise) it's Moyes we should be giving up on. The likes of Kagawa and Nani should be kept in-house as they have the potential to play significant roles under an elite manager, especially given the scope for rotation in the kind of schedule an elite club should expect to play. In fact, the prospect of losing certain players while retaining others based on the current Manager's approach is actually a big mark against giving him time in my book.
Actually, given the prices that were floating around when he was linked to clubs previously, there is some logic to this as IMHO, his current market value doesn't seem to reflect his capabilities. If he must go (and I still believe he can become exceptional under the right coach), then better he gets an opportunity to showcase his talents and boost his asking price. Of course, this would be moot if Inter have already got an agreed purchase clause with this deal.
