There's almost an air of...desperation...about the celebrations. I guess it's overcompensation for the frequent harsh critiquing of the team and its management.
I don't sense any desperation at all - just pure joy. I think it had quite a bit to do w/ the disallowed goal. We felt like we'd already won the game in actuality, and after RVP's free kick, reality matched truth.
Oh you don't need to explain to me the inner workings of pure joy (see: my reaction to the Macheda goal v Aston Villa 3 years ago). Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat(or in this case, a draw that felt like a defeat) is always good for a rush of euphoria.
That bit of commentary is priceless too. It was not set up, it was not composed, it was not clever. It just was. The best part of it was that after the Machedaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! He says "astonishing" and then lets the crowd and the players and the atmosphere do the rest. Our celebration of that goal on the pitch and by the fans was incredible as well. Pure unadulterated joy. My GOD I love football.
Whatever man, the whole damn thing. You had Fletcher tackling Macheda, Welbeck joining in. Fergie losing his shit and the utter shitfacedcannotbelievewejustwonthis look on the faces of the kids who were on the bench/in the stands not to mention Kiko celebrating with his dad. There are a lot of memories I cherish wrt United but this is in my top 10 comfortably. I don't know how any neutral could have watched that moment and not come away feeling something for United.
Same here Father Ted. Also when Rio headed in a goal against them maybe the season before in the 90+ after we were dominated by them, from a Giggs free kick. Rio still had the cornrows then. The Invincibles/early Abramovich era had me loving last gasp victories even more, if only because we seemed on the outside looking in at Mourinho, etc. O'Shea's chipped winner for the 4-2 at Highbury in 2005 was also class, one of the all time great United matches for me especially with the pre-match handbags. Also, Ronaldo beating Fulham by himself in 2007....we could go on.
I thought Rooney was superb in this game, if keeps this level of play like we saw against Citeh and I am not talking about goals, then I'll be satisfied.
HAHA. I AM a miserable bastard but not since yesterday. Now it may all come to an abrupt end the next game but right now it just feels awesome. I love when the commentator said if Van Persie could pick a spot for his free kick it wouldnt be too far off. And voila! then he scored it.........
There will never be a moment better than this, i actually cried that day and who know me personally know that crying and me about anything is something that just doesn't happen but on that day it did and i don't regret it, I Love Our Club!
That was pretty obvious. He also looked like he wanted to strike whoever he was speaking too. I remembered that moment, because it made me chuckle. Came right after he fouled Rooney in ET.
Question: I am replaying the RVP goal in my mind. Assuming for a second that Tevez was told to be 4th in the wall. He sees Rooney at the top of the box lurking unmarked. Was he right to peel off to mark Rooney? What would you have done in that situation?
Tell someone to stand on the back and get a yellow. Tevez couldn't as he already had one. But yeah delay the free kick so somebody can mark Wayne. Failing that, stay in the wall. There was always the chance Wayne's control let him down or somebody would have closed him. That said, I believe Joe Hart is partly to blame, he asked for 3 in the wall. He only got 2.5 mind you...
GK needs to make sure there's a certain number of people in the wall. One of the outfield players (probably a CM) needs to make sure that all people around the ball that may peel off are accounted for. So if a GK wants a 3-man wall and there are 3 people standing near the ball, then in addition to 3 man in the wall, there needs to be 2 additional players nearby to cover.
