In my estimation Joe Hart is the best keeper in this group, thoguh it looks like he won't be England's starter. Out of the starters Howard is the best, then it's James or Green, but they're not that far behind Howard.

Which of Handanovic, Howard, and Gaouaoui do you think James is superior to?

Who said James was our No1? Anyway, you said out of the keepers in the group... Hart is in the best form out of every keeper in this group, and Green is not far behind..

James, Hart and Green are all starters for Premier League sides. You don't play at that level if you're a mug. Sure James may have issues with concentration at times and make the occasional error of judgement but that's more than made up for by his shot stopping ability, his athleticism and his command of the area. If they weren't any good they'd go the way of a Carson or a Foster, they'd be relegated to the bench or replaced. Hence I rate them better than someone who plays in the Algerian league (if Gaouaoui was really any good he'd be playing in Europe).

    English Goalkeepers overhyped

I am the only person to realize that the English Goalies are very overhyped. They have a Goalie thats team got relegated (James), A Goalie that's team was 1 spot away from being relegated(Green), and a Goalie that had to get loaned out because he was not getting playing time at his club (Hart). I find it hard for anyone to think that England has good Goalkeepers. By far the worst in the group.

As opposed to someone who plays in the third tier of the Italian league yeah?

You probably misunderstood what my point was. I was trying to say that if you look at the #1 Goalie for each country, the Goalies for the USA, Algeria and Slovenia all are better.

    Re: English Goalkeepers overhyped

    1) I don't know who's going to be starting for England and neither do you

    2) Who's hyping the English keepers?

    3) Hart conceeded fewer goals than the mighty Howard last season.

    4) Algeria's keeper plays in Algeria, not exactly a top class league.

    5) You don't get to play consistently in the Premier League if you're a mug. Goalkeeper is a relatively inexpensive position, there are plenty of good keepers round the world so if yours is not up to scratch it doesn't cost much to upgrade. Yet here we are with James continually playing for top flight sides, which he will continue to do so next season. The same can be said for Green and as I alluded to earlier Hart actually conceeded fewer goals than Howard in a team that finished lower.

Hannehman had more saves then Hart so I can play that same game. James is not a good goalie though. I don't care where he plays. He is not good. He is overrated and i doubt he would make the US Squad.

David James or Brad Guzan? You'd pick Guzan?

    Re: English Goalkeepers overhyped

It's not a question of making the US squad it's a question of overall quality. England lacks a world class keeper, a Reina or a Buffon. In terms of relevant talent levels within the squad goalkeeper is the weakest area. Somehow USA fans have slowly twisted this over the years to mean that all our goalkeepers are weak. This is not the case, we have good keepers, better than a lot of countries but just not top top level.

Prenn, I'd take Al-Habsi over James if that was an option presented to me.

    Re: English Goalkeepers overhyped

I wouldn't. He showed flashes of quality when he filled in for Jussi just over a year ago but he's also had some really dodgy moments. I'd have James instead of Jussi on this seasons form and Al Habsi couldn't get in the team ahead of him.

James is just as dodgy in tournaments that matter.

When? He was part of a Portsmouth team that got the the FA Cup Final. He has his moments but the regularity of them is overstated.

England does not have horrible Goalies, but it was just idiotic taking David James. To me I think he is definitely the most overrated Goalie in England and maybe even the World. I just don't think he is at the level of Premier League goalies. I would take Paul Robinson any day over David James.

I think that's very silly. Aside from the fact he obviously is he's played in more Premiership games than any other player, you think someone would've sussed it by now.

To those of you who doubt Algeria's keeper: have you ever watched him play?

The argument that he is worse because he plays in the Algerian league is laughable. Typical eurosnobbery

England doesn't have horrible goalies. Just the US, Slovenia and Algeria have very good goalies (among #1 keepers, that is).

This is not a personal knock against you. I just don't think he is good anymore. he is now 39 and way past his prime and he does not have any business playing in the world cup.

For the record I've seen Chaouchi play and frankly, he is awful and not nearly on the level of Howard, Handanovic, or even James for that matter. He is susceptible to really big blunders and isn't that talented in the first place.
