Second consecutive win for Chivas USA! Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista’s lone goal helps Chivas USA defeat Real Salt Lake. Details:

CARSON, Calif.

    -----------

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014) – Led by forward Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista’s first score with Chivas USA and a stingy defense, the Red-and-White downed Real Salt Lake, 1-0, Thursday at the StubHub Center’s Field 4. With the win the Rojiblancos have now recorded two wins and a tie, as they remain unbeaten before going on the road to Las Vegas and Tucson, AZ, for their second leg of preseason.

The Goats took the advantage in the 11th minute after they were awarded a free kick when 2014 third-round draft pick Kristopher Tyrpak was fouled outside the box after making his run to get on the end of midfielder Carlos Alvarez’s pass. Bautista then lined up to the left of the arc and sent a perfectly-placed shot over the defensive wall and inside the left post.

Tyrpak continued to get into promising spots from his left wing position, as he got on the end of midfielder Bryan de la Fuente’s cross from the right side in the 18th minute to get off a header on frame. The attempt, however, was collected by Rimando.

In a match that featured three 30-minute halves, the defending Western Conference champs began generating promising looks toward the end of the initial period, but Red-and-White goalkeeper Tim Melia – in his second consecutive start of camp – was able to prevent the visitors from equalizing.

Tyrpak once again got into range a minute into the second period, when he squared up to goal from the left side of the box to send his shot to Rimando, who was able to gather the threat and keep his side trailing by one. In the 51st minute, Bautista displayed his technical savvy as well when he back-heeled a pass to Tyrpak to allow the rookie to push the ball up the left seam and unleash his second shot on goal. The attacker looked to double Chivas’ lead by placing the ball inside the far post but sent it just wide instead.

After bringing on 10 substitutions at once to start the final period, the Red-and-White continued to battle for possession with the Claret and Cobalt and look to get into the final third to add to their lead. The Rojiblancos’ defense remained stout throughout the final minutes of the friendly and kept RSL at bay to preserve the clean sheet and come away with the 1-0 shutout and second preseason result against MLS competition.

Chivas USA now prepare for their first road trip of camp, where they will face the Colorado Rapids in the Las Vegas ProSoccer Challenge on Sunday at Sam Boyd Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m. (PT). The following day, the team travels to Tucson, Ariz. to compete in the two-week Desert Diamond Cup starting on Feb. 19 against host FC Tucson.

While tickets for the 2014 Las Vegas ProSoccer Challenge are available here, fans can also find their passes for the 2014 Desert Diamond Cup here.

What's impressive is that he scored it on Rimando, no less.

Watching Chivas USA vs Rapids and I must say other then this sorry excuse for a pitch Chivas USA has some really good football, if it wasn't for the slippery pitch that they are playing on we be up already. Man Rapids love to foul when they are being out played at some point don't they?

Even though this is preseason I must say I am liking what I am seeing so far lets hope that this team can produce results when the season starts.

Is it me or were the Rapids completely played off the field tonight?

That build up to the second PK was jaw dropping.

really? I thought we played better but not great. I'm still seeing way too many lobbed balls over the top hoping that a hustling fondy will get a hold of it. The build up play was nice at times but too many wasted balls bybad passes or forced passes to the other team. Avila playing right back? I know Wilmer is doing that to have Rosales and Avila in the line up but he doesnt look right at right back....at least not yet.

I think he would be a good pick up below market value for your team. he's going to get plenty of minutes with Wilmer at the helm
