I'm quoting this post because it's several pages back and think everyone who cares about the atmosphere at Dynamo games, especially newbies to MLS, should read it. Brahmafutbol lays it out perfectly. When people see Portland or Seattle on TV and ask me why we don't do that in Houston, I usually suggest that diversity offers us some great strengths, but it also presents some challenges. Brahma's post explains the situation much better. You may agree or disagree with his or others' conclusions about whether it's a good thing, but I don't think you can really disagree much with his description of the lay of the land.

Yes, agree. Diversity, both tangible & intangible, can be pro and con

Adding to the insult of Penso's non-call on Carr being taken down, the MLS Disciplinary Committee gave Footy Danso a one-game suspension for hitting Carr in the head during the tackle. It's either an accidental arm swing or one of the craftiest forearms disguised as part of lunging tackle that you will ever see.

    Neg Rep'd.

I know nobody cares about these neg reps I'm giving, but if I'm allowed to rep a comment then I want to neg rep one, too. They may start getting annoying, but blame BigSoccer for taking that away from me.

Suspensions like this annoy the H out of me. We were denied a goal scoring opportunity and saw nothing in return. Now, Chicago, who currently has 3 points more than the Dynamo and just above us in the standings, plays a Portland team missing a starting defender. It would be more appropriate if the suspension were carried out the next time the two teams meet, even if that were next year. Or, if the player were traded, the next time the player played against that team.
Actually, that's my complaint against red cards given at the end of games, too. They have more of an affect on the next game and litte reward to the team that was injured. But, I guess that's nothing that will change soon.

i'm sure we've gone over this before, but do we know if the ref gets any repercussion if the league has to come in and clean up his mess? fine, write up, black mark, no recess, anything?? this foul in particular. it wasn't a foul off the ball, behind penso's back. he clearly saw it, as did the RA, and chose to believe that zero infraction happened. not a foul with no card, he believed in no foul at all.

how can the league and a center ref be so far off in perception and no one be corrected? and if he is corrected, is there any way to find proof?

I saw that one coming from a mile away. Next time try to be more original, just like the whole stigmata comment. I know this is coming from the guy that went to an elementary joke, but still I expected better.

3/10 rating is the best I can give you.

My problem is more with the AR than the HR. From pictures that I've seen on the net of the incident, the AR was watching the play the whole time and saw what was happening. It's not like Danso was slide-tackling, got a piece of the ball, and also got a piece of Carr. He dragged him down with an arm and went thru with both feet and got a toe on the ball while in a goal-scoring opportunity.

I don't know if the referee gets fined or suspended, but I hope he gets some sort of negative action taken against him. Anyone know where the bloke likes to have a drink? lol.(That's a joke, btw).

From my understanding refs and AR's are assessed after each game and all of their decisions (good and bad) are reviewed. In theory if they mess up enough times they can be knocked down to a lower level, but from the quality of reffing and how seldom that happens it seems like you have to screw up really badly in a lot of games for that to happen.

The flipside is that you can't demote a guy unless there's somebody better waiting to be promoted to that spot. What we're seeing is probably the refs that are the least bad.

It seems that US Soccer has done away with their Week In Review feature.

what ever happened to Abby O.? I haven't seen him do a match this year, but then again I've only caught about a half dozen non Dynamo matches.

I know at one point he got dropped last year for failing a fitness test, so he may not be reffing because of that.

He's only done one MLS Match this season (SKC vs Dallas). Looks like we are seeing some new faces so far, will have to see if that's good or bad.

I thought the ref was pretty bad overall not even including the car tackle. Totally inconstant with the way he was calling the game and at times it seem like the players were walking all over him.
