Lets see that excuses get dug up when algeria get slaughtered in the world cup.

I have already pencilled in some possible excuses.

-never recovered from the malawi defeat
-the south african winter is too cold for them having prepared in warm algeria.
-inter tribal rivalries ruined team spirit
    yada yada yada

third one was below the belt...

now lets pencil the English response when they fail to get a result:
    - Algeria was supposed to flop over and let us score...
    - we were expecting warm weather
    - no one told us that the stadium is so high above sea level
    - the players depressed after losing too much money in Sun City
    - the players couldn't wait to get to Sun City to recoup yesterday's loses
    - the players couldn't take there eyes off of their footballer wives
    - the players couldn't stop looking at Beckham's new hairdo
    - Beckham was too focused on his new hairdo
    - Beckham got bjatchslapped for looking at other footballers' wives
    and so on

I think he's getting upset about the obvious awesomeness of Algeria. How did we ever miss it?

Right folks, as Prawn just mentioned, let's change the tone of this thread please. Posts will be binned and/or warnings and infractions handed out if things continue the way they are.

Just to correct you :) You did. Twice: 1954 by Uruguay and 1962 by Brasil.

So we lost by 3 goals to Uruguay and 2 to Brazil yeah that's a real ass kicking

You deserve the warning that was given by the moderators for trying to inflame the situation.

Um, just to clarify - that warning was aimed at no-one in particular. Given the direction the thread was heading due to comments from both "sides" I thought I'd just pop in a friendly reminder that these WC forums will be tightly moderated. Forums like WR exist for those who want to engage in a more, how shall I say, colourful discussion - please use them.

As the stickied threads here and on the other WC forums state, forum bans will be quickly applied to those who can't abide by the guidelines and we don't want to have to resort to that

That wasn't trying to inflame anything. If you thought it was I'm sorry. I was just mentioning some ancient history stuff :D It is totally irrelevant.

    Define asskicking :D

Ok well in my books 4-2 and 3-1 is not really a thrashing, 3-0 would be on the edge of a thrashing depending on the team.

This is a low key encounter with very little quality on show. Algeria scored a set piece goal from a slow paced lobbed free kick into the box ,headed home as the mali defence just stood there like statues.
In the 2nd half algeria have defended with two banks of defensive lines with the occasional punt up to their front men. Mali have controlled the ball but created zero openings.

ya think? well actually it's not as sneaky as it might sound, and they cant really be blamed, the rules were known ahead of the games, Algeria was stunned by Malawi and it wasnt sealed just yet for Angola both coaches played it safe, and it's the most logical strategy to apply, why risk more yellow cards when some of their players are already booked, key players that could miss the next (more important) fixtures, why risk needless injuries too? ...etc... remember it's the group stage any team will do what needs to be done to come out of it ... after that expect all 8 quarter finalists to play like theres no tomorrow, it sucks for Mali but thats the way it is, Nigeria for instance did not make it to the 2006 world cup because of the same Head to head rule that, instead propelled Angola to Germany.

Yup, that's why the head-to-head tiebreaker is stupid. They should've used goal difference, then you are unlikely to encounter this sort of problem.
