Thought it would be interesting to track these over time: Week 1: ESPN 1. RSL 2. Seattle 3. SKC 4. LA 5. FCD Out of the top 10, only two teams are from the East. Sports Illustrated 1. RSL 2. LA 3. Seattle 4. SKC 5. Houston 6. FCD Out of the top 10, three teams from the East.
MLS power rankings: 1. RSL 2. LA 3. SEA 4. KC 5. FCD This year I will try to not get worked up over these... I feel like we will be a #2 or #3 seed going into the playoffs... If we win concacaf I really could care less about MLS cup this year... seriously
I still want the MLS cup. We will make the playoffs. Once there we can play for the cup. It will be tough since the higher seed will host the game but it is not un-doable. The shield I can do without.
In the MLS power rankings only two teams from the East are in the top 10. Just to keep track of our "relegation" league.
Using a 5-4-3-2-1 point system between the 4 polls, it looks like this: 1. RSL (20 Points) 2. SEA (14) 3. LA (13) 4. SKC (8) 5. FCD (4)
I love it. We need to take a beating early in the season to refocus and prepare for the playoffs. Let's drop in the ratings for a week or two and suffer through some growing pains.
And you know that's what is going to happen. If we don't put together a win versus DCU - we are going to plummet. I don't particularly care right now - most of the major critics are rightly pointing to a slow start rather than "DISASTER!" - but over the course of the season I will. Now that we are out of CCL my hope is that we manage to become a diabolical force of nature in MLS and crush our opponents. Again, setting expecations and standards. The talent in this team is too great. Even with a defense that is looking frail. We should be beating teams 6-2 with that offense. And with better finishing, we'll get there.
WEEK 2 ESPN: 1. RSL (who now are the toast of the league again *vomit*) 2. Seattle 3. SKC 4. LA - defense holding us from higher spots 5. Houston SI 1. RSL 2. LA 3. Seattle 4. SKC 5. Houston Rankings won't change at the top next week - RSL play Chivas at Rio Tinto. I fully expect a blowout.
Mr. "I Want The Rapids in the Middle and I know it," Colorado has to defeat the teams up top to be in contention for the No. 1 spot. They are unbeaten and they are flying. Stay tuned to next week's rankings to see if Pareja's men can do it.
SMH... you also have the GALAXY 7? a preseason #1 loses to #2 (now #1) and they fall 6 spots???? You're mental
After two weeks, the consensus on the top 5 in no particular order is definitely: RSL, Seattle, LA, SKC and Houston. That's what really matters, not the exact placement which is pretty subjective. That's the competition we need to keep an eye on. In particular the ones in the West.
The rankings are all subjective, but the comment about the Galaxy being "dominated" by Toronto is just just factually incorrect. Leave them at #7... but don't make up stuff to justify it.
I didn't realize those were your rankings. Kudos for going on record and taking a stand. Maybe you're trying to overcompensate for being a Galaxy fan, but that statement, as well as the second one above are just rediculous.
I don't need to be a homer when it comes to this. The Western Conference is a pretty wide-open division, so I had to compare their results with the others. If I placed the Gaalxy higher, I would be suspected of being a homer. Seventh place is not bad. It's comparable to being ninth overall in the standings, which is where they are now.
FALSE... your either a fan or a journal... pick one! To put them lower because you don't want to come off as homer is such a weak, lame excuse. Put them where you think they are regardless of your allegiance. AND if you put them higher it would show you had a brain. THEY WERE THE CONSENSUS #1 in preseason and only lost to the team that is now #1. That's not worth a 6 spot drop. Especially when you consider how much seperation there is between LA RSL SEA and the other 16 clubs...
Only a biased Galaxy fan would come up with an argument as that. I don't buy it. I wrote these articles putting on the journalist's hat, and I am not impressed by the Galaxy's Week 1 performance against a team they should have defeated. Preseason rankings are that: preseason. They lose their relevance after the first weekend of game. LA deserve to be #7 this week, and they will be so for another week because they have no games this weekend. They wouldn't have moved up by much anyway if they had held on to the shutout against D.C. LA would have been sixth at best. They got blown out of the water by RSL, and the Galaxy are still feeling the effects. I could have, in spite of you, dropped them even lower, all the way to the bottom, but that's not how these rankings go. All rankings, by nature, are useless; however we still post them for the sake of debate. TRUE.
