Wouldn't work when stitched on a shirt. It needs to be simpler. Get rid of some of the stars above the buildings. Maybe even just make the skyline a simple silhouette, no shadows and lines. I like the general idea presented here though.

But, as I've said in other threads, the name Sockers is just a really bad, outdated, meaningless name, in my never humble opinion.

Regarding names for a San Diego MLS expansion team:

    • Personal favorite name: San Diego San Diegans

    • Best legacy name: San Diego Sockers

    • Most marketable name: San Diego Armada

You honestly can't go wrong with any of those.

I like the skyline/bridge/stars part of the logo and the kinda workedin sash.

What does the stars on the right of the "sockers sash" stand for/mean?

Are they from a state/county flag or seal, has it another meaning or is it simply a design thing?

The real Sockers team has been around for years and I have never heard them called that. There is plenty of yelling for and against, but no name calling from the Sockers name. But good thought when it comes to choosing a name.

Gotta say, I like how they got the Coronado Bridge in there.

As for the name Sockers ....yeah it kinda sucks... but a lot of us grew up 80s and early 90s with the Sockers and don't care if it sounds stupid. I went to countless indoor games where they won championship after championship, so I associate it with winning.

Granted, that doesn't translate to MLS if we ever got there. But teams like the earthquakes have a connection to the George Best days of the Earthquakes ....if we got a team and named them something else then we loose the Hugo NASL/Sanchez/Kevin Crow (and indoor) history of soccer in SD.

Its like when Red Bull tries to claim the Cosmos, "Nice ceremony honoring the Cosmos ...but you're not the Cosmos." I will add incorporating the colors is important too.

Thats the dilehma as I see it-

Very good point. I'd root for the San Diego Seals.

Valid point ....yes, I meant SEALS, not Seals ...... but as far as mascots go we could play off both .......

or maybe just a really badass Seal dressed up like a SEAL ;)

I have heard the rest... but I still vote the Sockers. It's simple and nostalgic.

I've heard... Still, so was the Sounders name, and they took care of that by making them part owners. I think San Diego deserves a team, however I think it would be a shame if the name and team tradition, which symbolizes soccer in San Diego was left to dwell in the minor leagues forever.

And they say their is no relegation in MLS..

Wasn't it the USL Sounders owners who brought MLS to the city? Same in Vancouver and Portland, which is why their names made the jump up to MLS. We'd need the Sockers owners to be similarly inclined which unfortunately so far they haven't been.
