I actually wouldn't mind Inter de San Diego. Just don't spell it the Italian way. Club San Diego, CD San Diego, San Diego FC, San Diego SC, any of those normal names would do me just fine though. The only way I'd like a "mascot" name would be if they were to go back to the Sockers.
San Diego Admirals or San Diego Fleet or San Diego Armada colors: purple/white/black MLS needs a purple team
Better than yet another blue team. Blue fits SD but there's enough blue and white in MLS. Everyone looks the same.
No thank you with he blue and orange. I like the red and gold... they're our city's colors and it'd be unique in MLS.
I, along with a few others, have raised concerns about that name. The Mission was a horrible, terrible place.
I have always dreamed of a MLS team in San Diego named the "San Diego Mission". But if a team named after the Mission is going to upset a bunch of constituents and alienate part of the fan base, then maybe it's not a good idea.
Yeah, I understand the fact that a lot of people would like the name. I hold the complete and utter whitewashing of the history on the part of the State of California and the individual Missions to blame. Calling them concentration camps is not an exaggeration, and the descendants of the victims are still here. I have a few Kumeyaay friends, and I can tell you I wouldn't be able to look them in the eye while cheering for a team with Mission in the name. It means a lot to some people.
I voted 'Other', and apparently so did most. I vote we lock this thread and start the poll again with new names. This time with the ones that got positive responses in the other thread. Let's leave off 'FC' for now; that can be debated another time. Please add: San Diego Surfriders San Diego Internacional (or replace the "Inter" one with this, since that's an abbreviation of this. Spanish spelling please, not English or Italian) San Diego Ospreys San Diego Destroyers San Diego Fleet (from this thread and a good new suggestion) Thank you.
every time i hear calls for "san diego international", i keep wanting to finish the phrase with "auto show" and i agree.
And I think "airport"... ...which is why it has to be the Spanish word and pronunciation, anything else sounds kinda lame.
