There's been a lot of back and forth as to what exactly Ike is going to do but generally speaking, the shorter the forecast, the more accurate it is. 5 days out is laughable (especially for a hurricane) but 2-3 is doable, at least in regards to where it will go. Now intensity is a whole other can of worms that really no one knows how to predict effectively.

Anyway, latest thing that I see is that the computer models have come into agreement. Most are saying a landfall in between Corpus and Galveston. The outliers haven't been run with the latest data.

Moreover, this hurricane forecaster (great website by the way if you are a weather nerd like me) says this.

So in other words, according to this guy, by tomorrow morning you should be ready to do whatever it is you are going to do (i.e evacuate, stock up on can goods and ride it out, hijack a shrimp boat and go Lieutenant Dan on Ike, etc.)...especially if you live near the coast. Stay tuned.

Eric Berger from chron.com has done a pretty good job reporting on these storms too - no hysteria, just good scientific data and interpretation of the data.

I really like the weatherunderground page that has all the hurricane data in one place, it's the best hurricane page I know. And the radar thing that shows the hurricane moving is awesome. Think what it was like back when I was a kid in the 60's when Carla came, and everybody was watching the black and white radar from tv.

I think I will hit the one of the warehouse locations. The have cigars, liquor, beer, and fine foods. Everything necessary to ride out a time period of no power.

    Re: Hurricane Ike

That's a very important question. Obviously, whenever a major hurricane threatens the Gulf Coast, it's advisable to become concerned about zombies.

Fortunately, it's unlikely that this particular storm will coincide with the other factors necessary for a killer zombie attack. First, the storm may hit part of the Dead Zone in the Gulf of Mexico, but not enough of it to help generate killer zombies. Second, there haven't yet been any toxic chemical leaks or petrochemical facility explosions in the Houston area recently. Of course, since this is Houston, multiple toxic leaks or explosions are always possible. If we have some in the next couple of days, then, well, all bets are off.

Now, I know what you're thinking -- since we apparently don't have to worry about killer zombies this time, we can put away our machetes and axes. Well, sadly, no.

You may have noticed that some people who seem to believe in something called "science" -- whatever that means -- have successfully started the massive particle collider in Switzerland. The objective of this super collider is to create particle collisions that these people believe will replicate collisions among particles of matter that would've occurred trillionths of a second after the Big Bang. These people -- they call themselves "scientists", which just sounds elitist to me -- are clearly oblivious to the fact that these collisions will open a portal to another dimension...a dimension controlled by killer zombies!

You'd think that people would notice that millions of killer zombies will start pouring out of the interdimensional portal created by the super collider. But remember that it's in Switzerland, so it may take a while before anyone notices that the place becomes filled with zombies. So, anyway, just keep your machetes ready and be vigilant.

Looks like it's moving closer to us...at the least, more north.

That said, Anderson, why are you such a racist? What can't you like about this lovable face that you would slash it right off?

I bet you have one of these in your house, huh?

Here's some pics from the high tides Ike caused going past FL. They are from St. Petersburg (outside of Tampa)

Hope you guys will be safe.

Here are a couple of pics from my driveway. I liked the pics since they're big and I didn't want to a. break the tables or b. resize them.

    Poor Honda :(

Good luck and bad luck, usually when it floods here people drive through our yard so they don't get stuck. Luckily for us, unluckily for the driver of the BMW, this car blocked that path.

The owner of the Honda comes back to push the car out of the water only to then push it back in.

Gingers, you can leave behind. According to Cartman, they are evil people.

In all seriousness, I know I've been talking some trash in the rivalries forum with some of you big orange bastards, but man guys, stay safe down there and get out if you can. This looks like a monster. I believe they are still tracking it to Bay City am I right on this?

Anyway, for the DFW area, the aftermath is supposed to put a tropical depression over Dallas and bring some sporadic tornadoes, as if you could track one to begin with?

Anyways, we give each other crap over each other's soccer team, but really guys, get to a safe area. Hope all goes well.
