Prime, I most certainly did read the release, and I'm geeked. I don't normally use such a word, so the context of my usage should seem slightly impressive. What do you guys think of Orlando AOs having an internal discussion about team name/colors and then push our unified decision as the official choice of the Orlando AO, instead of just as individuals. Once the contest is official I can even imagine the Orlando Sentinel might be interested in what the local chapter has to say about it. Also, I'm taking some fliers up to a pickup soccer game tonight, a bunch of fun young guys I play with who I'd enjoy watching football with. I'll also be taking some to my CFSL soccer match on Sunday, and my dad's match also (we play for the same club, him in the over-10 and me in 1B). I'm going to keep the flier plain and simple. Don't really have a choice in the matter, got to keep costs down and there isn't much to advertise as of yet; we don't have an official bar yet and we've yet to nail down a location for the May 25th watch party. So I'm just focusing on meeting the 25-person quota to be official. The rest will come. One thing is apparent though, the watch parties should be held at an establishment that serves minors. It's kind of two-fold on that one: a) High school kids. I don't want to exclude them and their potential to become passionate and knowledgeable fans. b) For some games I might want to bring my kids . I'm seriously debating whether I should sign them up as Outlaws now so that they can brag that they've been Outlaws since they were 7/5/3 (my kids' ages). Too young to be an Outlaw?
We are proud to announce (to anyone who's listening) the launch of a new soccer supporters club for the "Orlando coming in 2011" professional soccer team. Much abliged if you'd check us out! http://www.orlandoodyssey.com
what's that on top of it, one of those beanie hats??? ah no, it's a toilet plunger with a broken handle.......that's it; a flying shield with a beanie hat...how cool!!!! Sorry folks, just my opinion but I think it looks really silly
I've addressed this with the designer. He got a bit too fancy with the fountain. It's not official (yet?). I asked him, if he's going to do a fountain, to redo the actual fount in the way our street signs. Sorry. The image I wanted to use was blocked from work.
I hope the crest is something simple. When you look at FCTB's, I think they got it pretty spot on. In a perfect world, I'd hope we don't end up with a lame badge with an unnecessary soccer ball on it.
There are rumblings on the Facebook page that work is progressing on the Orlando City crest. God, I hope it's not as hokey as Sporting KC's new crest.
Not bad on the crest, but I am not keen on the purple at all. It doesn't help that the purple bathes the splash page background on the website. I literally wanted to dig my eyes out with a spoon.
Orlando City News Release -- www.orlandocitysoccer.com Thursday, December 16, 2010 ORLANDO, Fla. -- Last month, Orlando City Soccer Club announced its commitment to bring pro soccer to Orlando, Florida. Today, we are proud to formally launch our new club crest and brand. About our brand: The name Orlando City was chosen to reflect our community’s pride in our City and its growth into one of America’s major cities. It is our goal to evolve with the City and to bring into this market the City’s second major league sports franchise. "City" states we are Citizens of Orlando and the equals of all. "City" says that all of us who live here are part of a vibrant population that expects the best that any large city offers. Orlando City intends to give us all the best soccer experience possible. The "City Beautiful" deserves the "Beautiful Game." About our colors: Our brand is built on our choice of colors, Regal Red, Pride Purple, and Championship Gold.
The crest is not bad, not excessively cartoony or anything. Definitely could have been worse... The website looks a lot nicer now that the finished project is up. Since my alma mater's primary color was purple and secondarily gold I have no problems whatsoever with those colors.
The three faces sorta put me in mind of that scene in "Contact" when Jodie Foster is blasting through a wormhole and her countenance starts splitting into copies of itself. (2:16/2:22/2:30, for examples)[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8axMaBL4uo"]YouTube - Contact Scene[/ame]
PTI. Well you guys look to be the only purple team in all of US's pro-semipro pyramid. Maybe the club thought of that. It's kinda cool to have an identity so unique no one can confuse you. Then again you could be the new Sounders...
I guess now would be a bad time to announce our "Electricity Yellow" third kit for US Open Cup and away friendly matches.
Purple has worked for the Vikings and Lakers for many years now. The concept has really grown on me and I'm proud our team will have a unique look on the North American soccer stage.
Seems pretty decent, although the 3 lions is obviously a direct nod to England who are known as the 3 lions. I've seen far worse badges and think i'd be happy to have a emblem like that!
Colors: are we still talking a-boot this? (I type in a Canadian accent) what we should really want to know about is our Keeper's kit- possibly a throwback to Jorge Campos to draw in more Latin fans? huh? huh? The real deal is that no one is going to be 100% happy with anything, so what are you going to do? not support the club? Wear a damn Purple shirt on match day, big deal. You may not be Prince but if you're a Magic fan you have no problem wearing Silver accents to Magic games, or to the bar. When people visit Orlando (as they always do) 2 things should be apparent- Mice are everywhere, and Purple & Red are cool. What I'm really trying to say here is that we should aquire the rights to play Prince's "Purple Rain" before games, and then mayyyyybe "1999" after we win- because everyone's going to be at all the home matches to support OUR club riiiiight?
We've seen what Prince's fandom can do. Unfortunately, we've heard it, too. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDs3U9IeYg0"]YouTube - Prince - "Purple and Gold" - Full 3:34 Version[/ame]
