I like that a lot, gotta be careful with that alternate kit though, dangerously close to RSL. As long as they stay away from to much red accenting in it, it'd be good.
Join dates can be deceiving... Anywho, on the hypothetical names front, I posted this on a RBNY related post, I like either Newark Atlantic SC or Metropolitan SC for RB when we're mercifully rebranded, maybe when NYC2 comes along.
Newark??? really MSC fans will be tempted to call them the Mets which is not cool may as well go back to Metro Stars
Yes. Newark. The major city the stadium is located just outside of and cultural capital of NJ. The city where all the fans congregate before and after the games. And actually, they'd be tempted to call them the Metros, the nickname of the club for the better part of two decades.
I am sure many of you are aware of this going on, but anyway, here are the current standings of the logo contest of the Atlanta Silverbacks: #1: 645 likes: #2: 582 likes: 3: 265 likes: #4: 221 likes: #5: 155 likes: ***** Honorable mentions (based on my taste and opinion): 109 likes: 105 likes: 98 likes: 57 likes: 26 likes: Got any favourites? >>Click and vote here!<<
Hrrmmmm... logo option #2 looks suspiciously close to this one... http://www.logoturn.com/silverback-gorilla-logo-for-sale
^ Uh oh here come the lawsuits. Copying my comment from the other thread... The logo that is leading isn't ugly but it's rather plain and uninteresting, the one in second place looks quite awful, so bad that it fits right in with most lower division US soccer logos. These are my favorites, the first two are the only ones I think are decent enough to be the logo: The rest are absolute s***. So I'm sure one of those will win.... The team shouldn't let fans decide, they have almost no design sense. Just pick the best one.
Nothing suspicious about it because apparently the team bought the logo from the creator and entered it as it's entry. At $300 it's a pretty good price too. I think it's easily the best logo.
I don't know. What colors me suspicious is that they modified or rebuilt the original design from Gregory Grigoriou in a way that does not makes sense to me. The original design simply looks better and more balanced. Okay, let's compare the designs a bit closer: The head looks more realistic in the original design, as the 'forehead bump' looks smoother and the white cutouts that give the face its gorilla look - the altered design looks more like a bulldog. The white space for the chest also has a better proportion in the original design. It is thicker and makes the figure look stronger, a bit as if it would wear a vest or v-neck muscle shirt. In the altered design it looks like a neck-tie. It also has the effect that in the altered design the posture of the arms looks a bit awkward, while in the original design they are parallel and firm on the ground. Last but not least let's have a look at the leg, which is less inclined in its posture (which gives it less stability) and has this weird cut at the toes. So, looking at those differences, what do you think? Modified or rebuilt?
Alright, my doubts have been sorted out, as you can read on sportslogos.net I still don't understand why they modified the design though. Anyway, since they now own the design they could still reverse that.
Apparently, according to an article on MLS Kick Off this morning, a NYC Councilman wants any NYC2 team to carry Queens in the title, like how the Brooklyn Nets are named after their borough. If, IF MLS where to go with that should a team really happen, that opens some interesting possibilities. Queens Cosmos, (this one makes me chuckle, don't know why) Queens Borough SC Queens of New York Shame, there are good possibilities here, but the Queens name doesn't carry the same weight as New York's does
Of course this is coming from the same jackass that doesn't understand why the team can't play at Citi. Why doesn't he encourage the Mets to change to "Queens?" He is pandering to voters. Nothing more. Because it sounds God awful? This sounds like a pub team. Hell, a youth team would be ashamed of that name. Is it bad that I could only picture this team in KC's inaugural uniforms? That name has a... stigma. Before the flames start, I am not homophobic whatsoever. Nor does it carry the weight that Brooklyn does. Only two things come to mind when I hear Queens in this context: Coming to America and The King of Queens.
After reading The Kings of Queens reference, all I could think of is what the headlines would read if a team like that won a trophy: The Kings of Queens. Makes me chuckle
Yeah, but those logos above don't have lettering like this... When most North American sport fans see lettering like that, they'll think baseball not soccer.
BTW, My picks for MLS: Crown League Atlanta Silverbacks Tampa Bay Rowdies New York Cosmos New Orleans Jesters Rochester Rhinos Pittsburgh Riverhounds Wilmington Hammerheads Carolina RailHawks San Antonio Scorpions Charleston Battery Baltimore Blast Milwaukee Rampage San Diego Sockers California Pumas Fort Lauderdale Strikers Orlando Sundogs Minnesota Stars Vegas Dragons
I'm more inclined to believe it would be along the lines of: "Atlanta Silverbacks ... DAFUQ ? FC ... DAFUQ ?"
