Creating a World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism by Muhammad Yunus [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Creating-World-Without-Poverty-Capitalism/dp/1586484931"]Amazon.com: Creating a World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism: Muhammad Yunus: Books[/ame] This is an excellent read and really helps me bridge that gap between the bloodthirsty capitalist part of me and the unending optimist part of me. I hope some real important people are reading this book because there are some great ideas in here, including my favorite the social stock market based on companies that adopt a social business model exclusivly.
This is disturbing, brilliant, and timely: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Dancing-Cats-Creators-International-Seller/dp/0811824152/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240592400&sr=8-1"]Dancing With Cats[/ame]
Given that his screen name is YankHibee, it's no surprise he's nostalgic for Tammany Hall and the days of the Tammany Tiger.
A new movie I am anxious to see, The Stoning of Soraya M., to be released June 26, 2009; it promises to finally tell the true story on the harsh often brutal treatment of women by Muslims through a drama set in 1986 Iran. I am curious if this film will allowed to be shown in Muslim countries; the plot seems very realistic and it is based on a true story. An ad for this just popped up on my Facebook. Looks pretty interesting (sorry if it's been mentioned already, I don't really read this thread)
I am back on this thread with something real special for my dear friends. If you are concerned about the financial crisis then this book is for you. If you are concerned about your money then this is the one you must read. Product Description: Where does money come from? Where does it go? Who makes it? The money magicians' secrets are unveiled. We get a close look at their mirrors and smoke machines, their pulleys, cogs, and wheels that create the grand illusion called money. A dry and boring subject? Just wait! You'll be hooked in five minutes. Reads like a detective story — which it really is. But it's all true. This book is about the most blatant scam of all history. It's all here: the cause of wars, boom-bust cycles, inflation, depression, prosperity. Creature from Jekyll Island will change the way you view the world, politics, and money. Your world view will definitely change. You'll never trust a politician again — or a banker.
Well, I could ask, what's the FR got to do with it... money existed before the but, more to the point, it sounds similar to Galbraith's 'Money: Whence it came, Where it went' or Paul Grignon's 'Money as Debt' short film available on youtube in about 5-6 parts. Actually, if Rostam reads this I'd ask him to watch that and see if it follows similar themes.
John Dean's latest book "Conservatives Without Conscience" is worth a read. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jA0OVtvqjk"]YouTube - Keith Olbermann interviews John Dean[/ame]
