Ian Darke said something like this is the first time Spain has had refs in a major tournament in a good while. Looks like they won't be back soon.
The handball would have been harsh, I don't want penalties like that called. The yellows were RIDICULOUS. The second might have been a foul. The first wasn't even a foul! Neither were cards. Jeez. I was rooting for the host, but I don't want them to win like this.
Half-time : Poland were clearly the better side, especially in the first 15'. But imo, they sat back after the goal, and Greece was slowly approching the Poland's goal. Not that Greece was showing anything that you can call "teamwork". At 1-0 it was far from finished though, but with this cheap red card, it will be much more difficult.
Well, it is a Spanish referee so I don't know what else I would've expected. Carlos Velasco Carballo, the ref, also gave Piqué a red card in a match against Sporting Gijón earlier this season after he, allegedly, told Piqué that he 'would be red carded later in the match' during a half-time discussion.
I do not envy Darke's job of pronouncing some of the longest names in the history of sport, on both sides. I hear that Giorgios Supercalifragilisticexpialidocios is warming up on the sidelines alongside Jakob Antidisestablishmentarianismski....
Poland is showing their quality. Very nice play from them. Too bad the ref has completely hashed it with 2 shit cards. Really poor from the ref.
Ref is terrible for both sides equally. That red card was a mistake from the defender who was stupid enough to attempt catching Murawski. But Murawski would go past him it would be one on one. That wasn't straight red as there were two other Greek defenders out wide. Terrible decission for Greek player and very sensitive ref (his average yellow card number in La Liga is around seven) and you have first individual tragedy for a player who must get out of the pitch in the first half when a team is being one goal behind. He shouldn't even try to catch Murawski! He's slow. I'd understand if that was Rybus, Kuba or Lewandowski. Other Polish players aren't too agile. Poor substantive preparation from Greek side? That's unbelieveable... That hand in PA wasn't of course enough to call a PK. There was no intentional movement towards the ball says the rules. But sometimes I wonder if players shouldn't be punished for technical mistakes also. The ref will be passed through without any objections for both those decissions from UEFA Refereeing Commitee. But I wouldn't have imagined that Greek NT could be so bad. They have no gameplan, none of the players can get past single Polish player and they have no idea how to create any chances aside from slow passing on the Polish half of the pitch and wait for a foul 30-40 meters from the goal...
