The LFP in Segunda Division has voted for a playoff system for promotion to Primera Division. The top 2 teams will be automatically promoted, however the third through sixth place teams will have a playoff for third promotion slot. Once the season ends then the third place team will play the sixth place team and fourth versus fifth in a home and away format, winners then play each other (home and away) and who ever wins gets promoted. If the season would end next week like it is right now, Real Sociedad and Levante would be promoted outright and Hercules, Betis, Cartagena and Elche would be in the playoffs. I am still disappointed that LFP has not changed tie breaking procedures so that Spain would be like the majority of Europe where goal differential is the first tie breaker. Er Pichi
I like this a lot. Glad to see they are going to a playoff to decide the final spot Curious, whats the current tie braking format?
Head to head points between the teams that are tied, then it's goal differential in the head to head matches played between them. Spain is the only major league in Europe which does not use the GD as the first tie breaker. Er Pichi
I like the idea of the play-offs. But what it has to be changed is the calendar for the 2nd Div. The english championship has two more teams and they ended a month ago. It is unacceptable that the spanish 2nd Div has finished during the World Cup, the likes of Emana for Betis and Bravo for Real have losed the final crucial games.
