Decided to "StubHub" a ticket for the playoff game on Saturday, and I'm driving up from DC on Saturday morning, planning to arrive in the Burgh around lunch time. I'll be at the stadium for the AFC game, but I'm trying to get an idea of where to go downtown on a Saturday night to celebrate a Stillers victory (crossing my fingers) and catch the Green Bay at Atlanta game. I grew up in Altoona, but I haven't been to Pittsburgh in at least 10 years, so any good recommendations would be appreciated.
Well, you could just follow the crowd over one of the bridges back downtown and see what you can find in the Cultural District. Plenty of places will be going strong. If you want to fight some traffic, you can head across two bridges to the South Side. Once you find parking, there will be a ton of places there. Best IMO would be Pipers Pub (in the 1800 block of Carson), which doubles as a soccer bar. Damn fine beer selection. Where are you staying, btw? Bummer for me to be out of town this weekend.
Haven't booked a hotel yet, but it looks like I'll be out of the downtown area because of price. There 's a place I found on named the "Extended Stay Deluxe" on Kayak that's about 3 miles from the stadium, right off of the Penn Lincoln Parkway. It's only $70 / night, as opposed to at least $250 for something in town. I figure I'll just check in, leave the car at the hotel, and cab it. Too bad you're out of town. It would be fun to meet up. I'm going to be in section 125, row P, seat 3. Looks like a great sop, and only 16 rows up from the field. I can't wait!
I found a good deal on Priceline to stay at the Westin Convention Center Walking distance to Primanti Bros. original location. Woot!
WTF?!?! Did someone not notice there was a home playoff game this weekend? Damn good score there. We've stayed there a few times, and while it's not one of the world's finest, it definitely gets the job done. Hell, you're about a mile from the Stadium now, too. Lots of people will be walking longer than you are to get to the game. Once again, great score.
So my wife changed her mind, and she's driving up with me. She's not a football fan, so won't go to the game, probably hang out in the hotel and maybe have a spa treatment or something. We should get into town around noon, and we're definitely going to hit Primanti Bros for lunch, then I'll leave for the game around 3:00 or so. I was thinking of Lidia's Pittsburgh for dinner after the game. It's in the Strip, and looks pretty good from a quick glance at their website. I also want to go to Sunseri Brothers market and do a little shopping after lunch before the game. Best Italian market I've been to outside of Italy. No exaggeration.
