Guignol tells me that is indeed St. Severin, which I stepped into yesterday. It's older than Notre Dame. The stained glass at the top windows (which you can't see) is original from the 13th century.
Oh: you're in France. That explains the time stamps of your posts. I was thinking you'd developed really bad insomnia.
well it's certainly flamboyant; i know the abside better (don't know the english word). unless i'm confusing it with another church in the quartier latin it used to have all kinds of little businesses propped up against it: cobblers, flower sellers and whatnot.
No photos ... just reporting that it's Saturday afternoon, 68 degrees, and I think half the world must be walking on St. Germain, or loitering outside Notre Dame. I saw a "Chicago dog" for sale today for 13.90 euros. Even with fries, I gotta say that's one damned expensive hot dog.
My wife takes all the photos. I will put some up when I get home. We return on Wednesday. Was just in Berlin on a short trip. Visited the DDR Museum -- the history of East Germany. Great little museum, the best practical guide I know to understanding the flaws (and occasional successes) of Soviet-style socialism. My favorite tidbit: the East Germans government made Baltic beach vacations very affordable, so that families that had never before been able to travel like that would get to the Baltic each summer. One problem though -- few people had bathing suits, and they were a luxury item to purchase. So ... vacationers didn't. The museum has the photos up, and a video too. Not a stitch of clothing to be seen. The whole danged country went nekkid at vacation time, it seems.
