http://www.oregonlive.com/timbers/index.ssf/2011/03/portland_timbers_venue_renamed.html It's on the Oregonian's website. Blech.
New pics from the Timbers facebook page show the goals. I had feared we'd get the crappy wheel-away AYSO goals, ala Houston. My fears were wrong! We have real, live, proper box goals! Yes!
WOW!! That IS great. Do they move side-to-side? Could be real handy on shots just wide of the post.... just kidding EDIT: of course, on my shots, they'd have to be able to jump up and down.....
You guys could tarp off every seat but 500 and The Timbers Army would still make enough noise to blow the roof off the place.
When they could easily sell every single seat, including those with obstructed views, what is the reasoning behind tarping hundreds of seats?
Start out at 18,600 (Seats) SRO will add to that. See how it handles that many people, then move the tarp back one row a game until you find the number that works great for the facility. Thursday will be the first time with an East Side and they don't want to overdo it on the first shot. The only walkthrough the stadium facility people will get is a HS soccer game.
Some stadium updates from today, pictures and videos from droppingtimber.com http://www.droppingtimber.com/2011/04/photos-jeld-wen.html http://www.droppingtimber.com/2011/04/stadium-update-4-12-2011.html http://www.droppingtimber.com/2011/04/2011-portland-timbers-media-day-videos.html We will be adding more pictures, interviews and videos as the day goes along.
Just watched a bunch of the videos of your new/refurbished stadium. To say I'm incredibly jealous would be an understatement. Looks like a great place to catch a match and hopefully I'll make it out there next year. Hoping that your first match in your new home goes smoothly on all fronts.
Nice stadium, but its incomplete with the fact that are no seats behind one goal. With time,I think will complete the stadium.I hope...
Can't. The people who built the place [which is not the City of Portland] have rights in dictating how the south end will look because they do not want to be blocked. It's not a matter of feasibility, it's a matter of interests.
Look at where the top of the video board is. They could add more, but they can't go much higher then that as it would block the view from the balcony on the MAC club.
Looking from pictures on Google of the pre-reno, and then pics of the after-reno, I can't believe how much the stadium has changed over one offseason. That's very good workd. It looks like the place has a real "retro" feel to it, unlike the cookie cutter looking soccer specific stadiums in other cities.
Just stopping by to give good wishes for tonight's game. I think this is must-see tv for any MLS fan....I hope the TA and the rest of the supporters bring it and create a killer atmosphere.
Hey Timbers fans,I'm really looking forward to tonights game! I'll be staying up till 1:00am watching the game.
Congrats on your first home game and the opening of your newly renovated stadium. It looks great! (and as a DC united supporter I am quite jealous) I'm looking forward to watching the game tonight. Have fun!
Congrats on the stadium guys. Looks beautiful. Really looking forward to the game tonight and the atmosphere you guys will create. Did I read right that Timbers Army has 4000 ST holders or did I misread that?
Nope. Any seat purchased in 101-108 and 201-208 [It's general admission anyway] is counted as part of the Timbers Army. But I've heard plenty of those who occupy 109-111 who'll be standing and chanting with the rest and sat there because they wanted guaranteed seats. That's 11 sections!
Good luck with the home opener tonight. The Timbers are overdue for a win and tonight is the night. Can't wait to tune in tonight see you all rocking the new stadium.
Impressive. Wish the powers at be would have turned the produced music off and let the crowd rock the opening ceremonies. Alas, some sports marketing buffoon needs to use his degree. I do like the Starred Banner rendition though!
