I love this particular stadium porn. As a DCU fan I appreciate a stadium with a long and distinguished history (while still pining for a SSS). It's great seeing a truely historic venue upgraded for MLS play. Question - in the old part of the stadium is it possible to walk from one section to another in the aisle between the lower seats and upper bleachers? From the pics I can't tell. One of the best features of RFK is the ability to walk around the inside of the stadium. None of the new venues allow for that - from the concourse you have access only to your section.
If I understand your question correctly, the answer is "yes," at least historically. One could walk down the big concourse that separates lower from upper sections. I assume that still will be the case, with the exception that the the north end (where the TA section is located) will require a TA ticket to enter, as I understand it.
That makes for an interesting situation and kind of a bummer. I hope people are still permitted to go all the way around the concourse. But yes, the way to get from one section to another at PGE Park has been and will continue to be either around between the bottom and top sections where you can see the entire time, or around back in the actual concourse. It's pretty neat really, the path around the stands. Granted there was a press area in front of the suites that from time to time was closed off for press only, so one had to go around behind the suites. I'm hoping the remodeled press box is good enough to make this open up for good.
a look at the away end if any of you out of towners were wondering. will also include section 222 for larger away followings.
I'm glad to see that guy is cleaning my seat off for me. Now all he needs to do is remove that bloody light pole that will be in the way and I'm set. Place is looking good, and I'm looking forward to seeing it first hand in May.
I see folks watch just about every match from the rooftop of that building. Yes, apartments or condos.
Pretty sure that I read the light pole in front of 122/123 isn't going to be there. I know it's not there right now.
Okay, I'm convinced; you guys are going to have a freaking sweet venue, congratulations. I wish I wasn't three time zones away.
Of course you're thrilled to know that there will be one less chance for you to have your unfounded, illogical crap challenged with basic reason. Spew away!
Not sure why they're there, but field lines have been added to the concrete. Looks cool. Gives you an idea of what it will look like once the turf is in.
Courtesy of Dropping Timber Full image here What I notice the press box has windows now, and the field turf is in the lower left ready to install.
They've installed a completely new set of lights. Ones better suited for HD broadcasts. Prior lights were better suited for baseball and were most likely installed in the 2001 renovation. I'm under the impression the light pole will be there.
Any idea when the turf is scheduled to be installed? I've always wanted to see what the process looks like.
Right NOW http://www.portlandtimbers.com/stadium/webcam Look in the bottom right, you can see the next layer has begun to be laid. I caution against watching all day, if you can just check it every couple of hours do so. They often do not work past 3pm PST. The turf is going in over the next few weeks so you have to check daily to see if progress is being made. They started the seats but have done a section here or there without a straight installation. Gotta be patient.
Are you sure that's turf? They just parked a truck in that spot. That looks to me like an area they still have yet to bake in that rubber surface like in the corners. Tough to tell on the cam. Also, are the seats in the area around the "O" grey instead of green like the rest of the letters?
