Nobody screwed up. The jack hammering as I said was for stairs. Stairs were never there. The concrete risers are all the same preformed off site. It's more cost effective to add stairs or other modifications in place rather than form a bunch of custom risers. This morning the stairs were all being pored with concrete. The underside of the new stand roof is getting its paneling. I was surprised that the new stand roof has sprinklers.
it looks pretty clear to me that they are hammering out the step risers, the step risers are CLEARLY already there and they are being removed. it doesnt matter that they were already preformed, the seat risers were definitely preformed, but the step risers between each seat riser are probably poured after.
You are correct, I saw them set them up and everything every day on the webcam. They had those fancy wood braces so they could pour into these spots for quite a while in that spot. Then they filled them with something, then removed the wood brace, and are now jackhammering those exact concrete squares away. I won't call them "stairs" because well, they aren't "stairs", they are steps I suppose.
Whoever did the redesign did a very good job. There was a lot of creativity there at a very cheap price. Elvis Minaya
http://www.portlandtimbers.com/stadium/webcam They put up a makeshift goal in front of the North End to show how close the goal will be to the Timbers Army. It's going to be fun!
Is that a makeshift goal post? Or are they putting in the posts behind the goal that will support the net? It also looks like they're preparing to remove the carpet. Saw someone out there using a cement saw, cutting lines in the carpet and cement (though I suppose that could be something related to drainage. I know crap about building a stadium). I was wondering why they moved the camera away from the south end. Then I realized that all the construction trailers had been removed.
Someone just moved the camera back to the middle again. And, yeah, there's a lot less stuff on the field. ...huh. And it got moved back again. I've never caught them moving it before, and now twice, in the space of a few minutes!
Seats are being installed! Well, seat frames at a minimum. You can see the white "D" that will spell PORTLAND. -jcw @ SCUSA TotalNerd Update - Weekly stadium porn fix.
Wow, you guys will be right on top of the play. I know many love the low EPL style seating as it looks fantastic on TV, but for pure viewing pleasure that extra height is better, the only thing we ever liked at Giants Stadium. The stadium is looking great. Quirky, but tons of character. One flub I noticed on your virtual seat thang was that friggin concrete tower is blocking a whole section in the top corner. A small thing, but I hope they don't sell those seats. Maybe no one knows just yet, but is that stage going to be used as a beer garden and/or removable seats for playoff games? My buddy lives down in Sweet Home and I hope to get out and see a match. Welcome to the league!
They did their best to get everything in on a budget and working with a 1926 stadium. Thanks! BTW, sections that are next the suites cannot see the goal! The south deck will be the Widmer "Far Prost" beer garden.
I suspect after a few weeks they will finally know for sure which seats are basically unsellable, another reason why they won't push that max right out of the gate perhaps.
It's called internet polls to name the new beer garden. No mistake. I'm out of the loop on what it means too. http://www.prostamerika.com/2010/12/21/fans-asked-to-name-bar-at-pge-park-34193/
Far Prost combines the soccer "far post" term with the beer toast "prost". Prost has been printed on the inside of Widmer's bottle caps as far back as I can remember.
Yeah prost is the german equivalent of "cheers". I think the stadium is going to be excellent. Downtown location, public transportation, and character.
Looks great there, pity you're so far away from Toronto. Maybe one day we'll get a west coast Sat Wed Sat swing.
