The 2018 World Cup does not need to be in Russia. There is no reason to think that things will get better there. Sochi was a mistake that we were stuck with, but there's plenty of time to move the 2018 World Cup elsewhere. Remember that the 1986 World Cup was supposed to be held in Colombia, but was moved because of the security situation there. A World Cup in Russia will be extremely expensive for fans.

This is a lost cause. Fifa never gets involved in politics. Security reasons is a different story.

Agreed ... security would be the only real concern that FIFA would have ... and if anything Sochi is an example that Russia can guarantee security for a big event. Unless this Ukraine thing spirals further out of control, this is most likely going to be a non issue by 2018

How was it a mistake? Were you there? It looked like a beautiful place with world-class facilities.

So is a World Cup in Brazil or Japan. Rio and Sao Paulo are 2 of the top 5 most expensive cities in the western hemisphere, and not a cheap flight to get there for most fans!

Fifa needs to take more money from emerging nations that can laundry money into budget expenses.

Fifa is starting to feel like the vatican.

Let's pick this up again if FIFA gives us reason to believe that they are actually considering it.
